THE FIFER Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 If you remember the auction pigeon basics put on for this young football team earlier in the year with members donating birds and cash to help this young team pay its way in the Scottish Football Development League (FIFE) total of this Auction was £640 which has went a long way in allowing these young lads to take part in this League, which is not cheap, their Fife Development League Fees are £50, Scottish Youth Football Association fees £80, Referee fees for 20 games £270, booking playing fields £200, they played their first round of the Scottish Cup (got beat) this cost including a coach £400, so you see the expence to give those young lads a chance in the football world, they also had to purchase new strips, (Black and WHITE, like Newcastle I think) black shorts and socks, we have at the moment 20 lads in the team, (in this league you have as many on the bench as you want and its a on off thing you keep changing around) its a development and learning league all comes under the SFA rules etc, the teams start from 7yrs old up to 21yrs, that's why this team is the LEVEN BOYS 95s FC all born in the year 95 (under 14) when they start at earlier ages its 7 a side small pitches etc and they play 3 x 20mins, but increase as they get older my team is now 11 a side full size pitch and play 70 mins, each lad pays £3 a week towards funding but as you see without the great pigeon basics and its members could not possibly survive, it was a great help to get youngsters on their way in the football world, who knows someday we will be able to say Hey we helped that footballer to get where he is, not got a photo of the team yet but will soon, its one of those things you have to be careful with taking photos, but once all parents have signed up we will get one, another thing all those young lads must sign up to the team and cannot play for unother unless we let them go , many thanks for your support from all the team and parents and committee, a lot of the professional teams have a youthe team in the league and sometimes call on 1-2 our lads for trials, we had 3 at Dunfermline FC last year but nothing came of it, just as well I think because those big teams have lots of players and they dont all get a game, anyway many thanks again, will keep the site informed, we play at CUPAR this Sunday, cheers .

THE FIFER Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 they certainly could'nt have done it all without pigeon basics and its members,
alex wight Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 I was involved with the Lochgelly 91's when i stayed here before. But due to lack of funding the team folded, which was heartbreaking as these young boys and girls have little in life to occupy thierselves. Well done archie, i hope they continue to thrive.

Well done archie, i hope they continue to thrive. yes its a great oppertunity they get, gives them the coaching ( and they must be qualified coaches) and the chance to get into the football world starting from an early age, they start at seven at this age, they advance to different age groupes each year the under 14s (95s) are now playing full size pitch and in a leauge so scoring and points now count, but its still a development leauge and its learning and enjoyment that count, but its an expensive thing to keep up, the ladybank team finnished this year as well,
alex wight Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 The ladybank team is a very strong one, and considering the size of the place they do realy well. I,ve got all my coaching certificates, but as you say it involves a lot of support and money. Altb alex.
sapper756 Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Good to see youngsters getting something benificial out of life, instead of standing on street corners, well done to ALL who helped raise funds via pigeon basics
