found 1 of my hens on the floor basically all the cocks having a ride tried moving her but she aint walking normal ?  any suggestions shes got 2 young in nest but cocks taking care of them

sounds trapped nerve re egg bound get some calcium tablets from chemist  bath bird and get a hot water bottle ( not too hot ) give a calcium tablet and cod liver oil capsule and wrap in a tea towel give water with a syringe and egg should come and bird will recover

cheers guys  ive just checked her   id put her in her box   she seems better   theres grit and pink minerals all year round in loft i also give linseed oil every week    she could be ready to lay second round of eggs as young arnt far of moving     ive bathed her im going up the farm tomorrow ill buy some multi vits, ill keep you posted if anything else changes

update on hen shes fine today, my pots had run out of minerals all that was left was crap grit filled all pots yesterday and they have all had some so lesson learned, also put some in with my ybs which i hadnt befor and there mess this morning was perfect as it had been a little bit  watery job done

I change mine twice a week when breeding.

Sounds like calcium deficiency to me.

Fresh shell grit me thinks

if it happens again m8,just go get a box of renees ,give the pigeon  a quarter in the morning n quarter in afternoon repaet daily till up and about again,it worked for me

put half a calcium tablet over her neck, and obsereve the quick recovery   you can get them at any chemist

WHY do u have to change grit twice a week my gritpots hold alot of grit so i would be throwing out more than i use.Theres also no need to throw out minerals when they get a bit damp simply dry them out it has no ill effects

dont agree... i change the grit and minerals daily.. only putting in enough to do them to the next day... no waste and always fresh..

I dont have any mess either i use flora tubs not gally pots you get more waste with gally pots as the birds like to rake about through it.And it all stays fresh as there all in custom made boxes

My best hen (Typical!!) has laid her first egg about a week ago now but she has not laid her second egg. The egg can be felt near her vent bones but it seems to be stuck. I have tried applying some olive oil to her vent and massaged the oil into the area for the last couple of days but the egg has still not moved.

 

Any advice what else I could try?

you might have to brake the egg if u can to stop her from getting hurt,

This is the hens second round. First round was no problem. The birds get fresh grit and minerals daily, so unlikely to be grit or mineral deficiency.

 

I will however try the warm bath and giving cod live oil capsule.

this is in fact the old hands" elementals",, a calcium tablet, plus a brewers yeast  tab,,, ,, cheaper sappers way ;D [other scotsman lol ;D],, this is for calcium deficiency, [my guess here]

 

if hen was egg bound , back end would be swelled , and you should be able to feel the egg,, sometimes steaming over a kettle helps

 

other thing,, could be a trapped nerve
