alex young Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 Starting out having built a 16' x 8' loft I am looking for advice on how to divide it up.Should I go with 4 4' sections or 3 5' approxIf I was starting out with only a 16'x8' loft,I would have 5' for w/hood cocks,2' 6" for widow hens and a 6'youngbird section with a sliding door to separate the sexes. The remaining 2'6" could be for a couple of stock pairs, racing 8cocks and their hens weekly should give you a good chance to be amongst the prizes. One of the best flyers locally only had a 14x6 loft which housed all his birds including stock.atb.
Tony C Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 I would start of by working out what type of nestboxes your going to use and how many your going to put in the old bird section, nothing worse than partitioning the loft then finding you should have placed it a couple of inches one way or the other. Not knowing how you intend to race your pigeons I cant really answer your question fully but I would definitely have a 2' corridor in there.
harry h Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 My loft is the same size 16x8 middle section 8ft by 6ft has 12 w/hood nest boxes and 2 x 4ft by 6ft end sections with a 2ft corridor. Click on picture to enlarge.
Poppy Loft Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 I could also do with some advise. This has been my first yb season for 15 years and I am wondering which way to go for next season. Widowhood, roundabout or natural? I raced to a 10x8 converted garden shed with a 6ft aviary on the side this season, managing to win a couple of races. I have recently added another 8x6 shed with access to the aviary. I know nothing about widowhood as have always raced natural in the distant past, but people tell me if I want to be competitive with obs I should go with widowhood. Any thoughts/advise on how to make the best of my set up would be great thanks.
