I reckon that the vast majority of birds offered for sale are not worth bothering with.

I am amazed that people go out there and buy this stuff. I could understand someone just

starting but not once you have got into something like 4 or 5 years.

You only have to look at the adverts and the claims made for birds that have never flown a yard

to know that they are not worth bothering with.

If someone is serious about bringing in new blood why not go to a person who is winning races

and get it there. The odds on getting something good is far better.

No new stock for me, I am in the process of cutting down the number of pigeons I keep.http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0126-nerd.gif

Something I missed from my last post. Probably the most negative thing that can be read in the adverts is the comment, "Bred for stock". The reality is that you are asked to buy a bird that has not been tried and tested which has to be a gamble. I have no doubt that there are times when birds should be bred for stock but if that happens the youngsters from such a bird must be given a fair but thorough testing on the road. The bit I do not go along with are the pairings that include both birds of the pair that were "Bred for stock". For me that would be pushing things far too far. In my opinion one of the reasons why some people get so many losses is the fact they will insist on buying untried and tested birds in to breed from. And I know that there are plenty of cases where the youngsters are bred from generations of non performers. Surely common sense will tell the people who do that sort of thing that they are on the road to no-where.
