OLDYELLOW Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 I train in 5 mile steps so 1 x 5 mile 1 x 10 mile and so on , if get a bad toss take them back to the previous training point , might be a good idea if you can tag a long with a club member near you and share the costs , or there may even be someone who goes training in your area
adam owen Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 get them doing at least 1 hour b4 u even think of training them mate get them on the barley they will soon get going
adam owen Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 drops the wait off them and conditions them up and thins the blood which will help the oxegan get to them better which will inhance there effort in flight
adam owen Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 no probs mate barley in underestmated the droppings are like marbles and the down will fall off them which helps with the condition

just ask me Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 youngbird training is all about building confidence start about 7 or 8 mile dont move from there until there clearing fast then push them on a bit and the same applies again young birds can get bored flying around the loft they can be flying great then just give you 20 mins or so flying a few training chucks and they will start flying well again
Roland Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Depends if they have finished ranging. They don't fly for hours any morw, or with the gust and zest they did before. But often it is because the feed isn't right. Likewise not hungry won't fly, too hungry hang around loft to get fed. Think personally, but haven't done it yet, that 20 mile chucks in any and every direction, every day, with light tib - bits to trap them in, and fed per night proper like at same time. If one is able to do it, or be around. Me, the best I've ever done with y/b's is 3 chucks race week after they have well finished roaming, and are hopping from roof to roof etc.. Monday 30 miles South, 35 miles West or North and 70 miles of East when I take the missis and grandchildren sea side.
vanlink Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 I have my first race 3wks today and my. Ybs are only flying for 20min at the most what can I do can I train or not addvise pls its my first year so it's new to me thanks I would say no you can't, its up to you of course but in my experience ybs need to be ranging before training starts. If they are not then there are many reason's but the first is: are they ready to range? how old are they? have you got yb's of all different ages together cause that will slow them down. Try to watch to see if there are certain yb's that are pulling them down. Put coloured clip rings (not coiled) on to their legs so that you can easily identify them from a distance on the loft or inside. Try letting them out in smaller batches. Put them into baskets to let them go on the lawn and let so many go at a time to see if they fly longer. Also the time of day can affect how long they fly including are they hungry? I feed mine as much as they want in the morning and then let them out after 4pm cause they are not hungry they fly longer. Their is a risk that they can get lost when they range too much but i personally am not bothered cause if they get lost ranging then they could get lost racing. Finally do not worry about being ready for the first race as sometimes it can be better to miss the first one. When you do finally decide to train DO NOT train them all at once. It may be time consuming but let a small group go first and wait until they get home before you let the next lot go. Have some one at home to tell you via mobile when/if they get home. If you put all your eggs in one basket it may be easier to carry but you might trip.

vanlink Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 thanks forall the advice they are nearly all the same age they are all march bred They should be ranging by now then. There are so many reasons as i and others have said. Really you could do with some one with experience who does well close by to have a look at them cause they may spot what u can't describe.
