Guest geordiejen Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 this year i will have a yb section and was wondering how the training of young to come in works?firstly i will be putting them onto a landing board with a small cage around it to let them see out.their will be bob wires on the inside and for the first few days i wont be taking the cage away.usually i feed them in the morning before i go to work then about 5 oclock when i get home.if im going to let them out for the first time that evening should i not feed them in the morning or should i give them half the feed.or should i give them their regular feed and let them out when i get home?this would mean the second feeding will be delayed by a couple of hours, say 7.30 or 8.00 at night.with a strict training regeme obviously letting them out the timing of the feeding will be different.do you think 2.5-3 hours out is too long?
geordie1234 Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Me personally I wouldn't feed at all that day then let them out for 15 20 mins and call them in then gradually let them out longer
dal2 Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 First few times you let them out keep them a wee bit hungry usually morning is best. Would not bother with cage just get them on the landing board every day after they are spaned. If there are other lofts around try not to let the babies out when there are other flocks out.Dont chase them to fly but when majority are up and flying if there are others the same age still siting on the lander dont let them.Feed them half in morning and half at night at the same time for routine will help you and the birds.
Guest geordiejen Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 when you feed the birds in the loft do you always use a tin to shake so the birds know this is feeding time and then when let out to fly shaking the tin lets them know its time for a feed?
geordie1234 Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 thats what I do mate, some people whistle or shout cmon etc aslong as you do the same thing everyday I suppose you could use any noise
