Agricultural or Garden lime - yes. Any other kind is likely to cause burns to the birds eyes (I've never used these so can't confirm from experience, something I read in BHW yonks ago, happened to another fancier.)

There's basically 3 types of lime. The one you want is calcium carbonate, which is natural limestone, crushed.

The other 2 are in this bucket in the video. Watch what happens when water gets at it.

This is just my opinion but I don't reckon that lime in the loft is any good for you - let alone the pigeons - I think (no medical back up)that lime might contribute or aggrivate pigeon lung disease.

Stands to reason that it can't be good for you breathing it in and if you are brushing it into the floor it is inevitable that you will be breathing it in......?

I've stopped using it anyway.

would agree with you there 100%,we tried it once and neither me nor Liz could hardly breathe and I wore a mask then and even with a mask my breathing was slowly getting worse so that was the first and only time we tried lime and if it was doing that to us we thought what was it doing to the birds but that was just our experience others seem to be okay with it.

I think you'll find that some of the floor dressings on sale, e.g. floor white, is just crushed natural limestone (calcium carbonate) sold under a pigeon product brand name. Their instructions were to brush it in.
