Hey Walter - Keep yer chin up mate - Nil carborundum bastardo - and all that.

As secretary, you are entitled to ask for help. Delegate some of the work and kick their backsides into shape. I'm sure they'll still moan but don't let them get away without doing anything.

- Hope you have a great season.

In our club the secretary is a top flyer. He has a young family, a high pressure job but is still a great secretary and clock setter. I dont know how he has time to fly his birds. Now that i have posted this i might get a free youngster. :D :D

I,ve been in the sport for 6 years. In my 2nd year i was appointed secretary of my club, also a councillor, oh and ran the ets. I had an arson attack on my loft but still kept going, for 3 members to threaten their resignation if i didnt kick one of our members out of a race, for something they thought was wrong. It wasnt wrong, and they didnt resign. I then moved clubs to be appointed race secretary and ets operator, to then be elected as secretary in my 2nd year. I enjoy doing the job, but one of our members threatened the club as he wasnt happy about not getting an ets system (due to not attending any races). The crap that i had to do after my full time job and sometimes during it, was bang out of order, our agm is soon and this will be dealt with. Our fed agm is this sunday, and we need a secretary............ my name was put forward, and i have refused due to, working full time, the work i do for my club and also a 4yr old boy and wife. I cant believe for the life of me, why the 4th youngest and one of the least experienced fanciers is being considered for such a post, and also president. I wait to see the outcome on sunday, but as you say, its the mouth pieces that do all the shouting but do very little to support the club or fed that they are in, that forces the guys in the positions to walk, due to the abuse.

tread carefully Alex, first n foremost enjoy ur doos and dont sacrifice ur family life for doo men! been thro it all, u will just be shat on from a great height, let the the unemployed, OAP, supposed invalids do the work... they got all day!

dont mean to sound negative but a small minority of fanciers spoil it for the good guys, i like ur self do my fair share for the love of the sport, but dont stick ur neck out any further than you have too... ur are likely to loss yer nose!!! :D:D

Cheers Wullie, that is what is on my mind all the time "i,ve not enjoyed my pigeons since starting back up again". I dont know what will happen tomoro, but i wont be doing anything that i see being detrimental to my family, myself and my birds. Ultimately i will do what i want to do, not what everyone wants me to do.

Having now raced the doos for 40 years 1972-2012,I have enjoyed all aspects of our hobby, was voted in as vice president of the lockerbie club as early as the mid seventies and was also assistant clock setter which i really enjoyed also,I was then voted onto the president chair at meetings etc and remember being proposed at the time by the late great percy cameron our fellow club member and president of the snfc for many years,we had a very large club in those days and the help and encouragement i received from the older members was fantastic,I then held the secretary's position for many many years another post that i enjoyed holding,at present I hold the presidents position in the club and am fed delegate for our club,I would say you have to be either cut out for these posts and enjoy doing them or give them a miss and do your bit for your club in some other way,We are very fortunate that although we have only ten members in our club Lockerbie we all gel like one large family and are also fortunate to be able at present to share the marking facilities of the Hoddam flying club who have went our of there way to welcome us with open arms they also are a great bunch of lads,This to me is the way things should be Help your fellow competitor forget the politics and let the pigeons do the talking, Good Luck to all in 2012 :animatedpigeons:
