b.massey Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Can anyone tell me what you need to take birds over into Ireland? Also if anyone from Ireland who shows in the likes of Blackpool do you's just go onto ferry or declare you have birds? I want to show at Dublin show in november but unsure what rules are taking birds from UK to Ireland
paddymac Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Theres no problem taking or bringing birds from England on the Ferry into Belfast, I have done it quite a few times myself and J. Miller does it on a weekly basis.
b.massey Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 So stranrear to belfast then drive in to dublin? Or can you get ferry to dublin.... I flew over a few weeks ago and airport is next to port but unsure if ferry there comes from stanrear
paddymac Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 I would say you could possibly get the ferry straight into Dublin as its the same ferry company but no too sure if there are regulations at Dublin port regarding the birds.
Fly_caster Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Hiya, 1. There is no boat from scotland to Dublin.2. Boats from Scotland are either from Troon or Stranraer (or Cairnryan) and go to either Larne or Belfast City,3. Either Irish port is about 2 hours by road to Dublin on very good (motorway) roads.4. The show is on the North side of Dublin, right beside the Airport, and therefore lots of hotels to stay in. Most stay at Bewleys, Dublin Airport.5. The closest port to Scotland which has a sailing to Dublin is either LIverpool or Birkenhead. (P&O I believe).5. Ferries also go from Hollyhead to either Dun Laoire (South of Dublin) or directly into Dublin Port.6. There is no limitations, restrictions or regulations for any of the ports mentioned in relation to the transport or importation of pigeons. Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions if I can be of any further help. Best, Steve
b.massey Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 Thanks mate.... Am I best to book ferry?? Seems belfast then drive down to Dublin is the way I will be going.

Yes - Troon is by far the best route if you are from Glasgow or further North (or west) because the last 1 Hr. drive as far as Ayr is one of the worst I know of in the UK. It is a 2 hour sail to Larne and yes I would book it. (I have a nasty feeling that it is a summer only sailing and may be off when the Dublin show is on). Nonetheless, book in advance for a cheaper fare and splash out on a "Stena Plus" ticket - it allows for cancellations and also gets you priority boarding and departure as well as a nice lounge on the boat with free snacks, tea, coffee, fruit and newspapers. If you go to google maps, and enter Cloghran, Swords, you will see the M1 mororway right beside the show centre, and the Bewleys hotel which is within a mile on the same road off the motorway.

Fly_caster Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 It's never that rough a crossing - almost never ! That is a cheap fare - get it booked and enjoy yourself ! ATB, Steve
Guest IB Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Mind if you're just visiting the Show, Ryanair & Aer Lingus both fly Edinburgh to Dublin, both do cheap flights & Aer Lingus offer hotel bookings too. (Neither of them allow animals on board.) Don't know show dates, but £15 single seems better than £90 return, and a lot less hassle & time spent travelling.
