just ask me Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 anybody add any extra seed to there mix for the moult i add a little linseed
Tony C Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I add a little linseed & groats to a breeding mix.
Guest IB Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I used to buy a moulting mix that contained linseed, but the birds left most of it. Past 2/3 years I've made up my own, which is 50% barley & 50% beans, maples, tares, maize & wheat. None of that gets left. But biggest trigger for moult for me is splitting the sexes, done that last Saturday, perches are now carpeted in feathers every morning.
xtccock Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I B im confused your birds are leaving seed yet going through the moult no wonder there not moulting not even hungry the two best seeds in my opinion are linseed and rapeseed 50/50 the feathers drop out like snow flakes teaspoon per pigeon per day regardless of any other feed oh and after working in a protein recycling plant feathers are 90% protein a fat bird wont moult or even loose its down feathers
jimmy w Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 linseed, hemp ,black rape, groats ,beans ,barley, plus some diat mixand maize

The first part of my post said I used to feed a moulting mix that the birds wouldn't eat. The second part said I mix my own now, which they do eat. I never said the birds weren't moulting. I never said the birds weren't hungry. In fact I said the opposite: they now eat everything put down to them, and the perches are carpeted with feathers every morning. And I don't feed seed - at any time.
JohnQuinn Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Plenty Red Band or equivalent and kibbled peanuts, does the job for me
