Guest yorkshire terrier 77 Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 hi i am just wondering what are the specific vaccinations and preventative treatments you give young birds . is there any difference if they are to be raced or not and just used for stock birds . any help on this would be great. ps when i say specific i mean things that are a must and thing that are optional.
Guest IB Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 The only 'must do' is vaccinate for Paramyxo (PMV). You can't train, race or show racing pigeons without that.
greenlands Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 VACCINATION OF PIGEON AGAINST PARAMYXOVIRUS1. Pigeons entered in Races or Shows must be vaccinated against Paramyxovirus with a MAFFapproved Vaccine.2. A Vaccination Certificate containing the details is to be used.3. Vaccination of pigeons must be witnessed by two independent members of the Club or a Vetwho will be required to sign the Vaccination Certificate on the front and likewise after the lastpigeon listed on the reverse of the form.4. The Vaccination Certificate should have recorded on it the make of Vaccine used and the batchnumber of the Vaccine.5. The original copy of the Certificate should be retained by the Club and a certified true copylodged with the other Club (if a member is in more than one Club). These Certificates shouldbe retained for two years.6. Members entering pigeons in Races and Shows will be required to certify on their Race EntryForm that the pigeons have been vaccinated against Paramyxovirus with a MAFF approvedvaccine.7. Club Secretaries will require to certify to their Convoying Organisations that all pigeons enteredhave been vaccinated against Paramyxovirus with a MAFF approved Vaccine.8. The driver of the Transporter should be furnished with a Certificate certifying that all pigeonscarried have been vaccinated against Paramyxovirus with a MAFF approved Vaccine. MAFF is now DEFRA
Guest dodgydaz Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 it might say that you have to have 2 witnesses to sign that the birds have been done, but how many fanciers actually vaccinate there own birds without any witnesses, plus as for the batch number i purchased some colombvac vaccine from hyperdrug in march to do my old birds, and the vaccine i bought for the young uns has the same batch number, so if the club checked the sheets they might think the young uns havnt been done cos it would show around 120 birds with the same batch number 4months apart

I purchased 1 x 50 dose in January which did my OBs for 2011. I bought another recently which will do my 2011 YBs and I have enough left over to do my OBs again in September for 2012. I bought both bottles months apart but each has same batch number and expiry date (Sep 2011).
