Guest Hjaltland Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Looks like it may be off this mornin.. incoming weather.. keep the fingers crossed for Sunday.
roselan Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Whats wrong I really thought we had a good chance 2day is it the east in the wind? turning to S/Westerly 2morrowRose
Guest Hjaltland Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 I think the birds would be flying into a freshening South-east wind plus cloud.
roselan Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 These are Lerwick birds sent for the job on a reasonable day as long as they reached mainland we had a good chance of day birds right down country. Who can fly out of Scotland withiut hitting any rain? The BBC forcast 2morrow at 7.30am on net is a lotta lotta rain below Aberdeen to borders. He will let go Monday with west in the wind not much better than 2day rainwise but just right for catching the Ferry back.

Decision making is always hard in situations like this, I can thoroughly understand your frustration and all I can do as a bystander is offer understanding and comment. The birds on the truck are the cream of North Road racing and have mostly survived a long and hard run up to this race - all the more reason to exercise caution at this end stage. There is no point in having another smash with a handful of returns, where's the joy in that for anyone? I dont understand your last comment ' just right for catching the Ferry back.' ... there are ferries every day to Aberdeen and back, you should come visit sometime, you would realise just how far away we are up here and just how different conditions are.. the south east of England is Mediterranean by comparison to here All the best Kenny
Roland Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 They won't release - never have - if any East in wind. Used to say crap like 'They willget blown into mountains' till that became too ridiculed. But fact is the East coast boys complain so bitterly ... besides it is run by the East Coast boys, and hence why referred to as the East Coast Club. Mores the pity.
roselan Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Sorry about the Ferry comment being sarcastic I know but you didn't say if you thought the birds could have reached the mainland and further this morning instead of more days in basket? as for south coast you should speak to the poor convoyer I spoke to last Saturday morning early when a gale force West wind was battering the Scottish transporter and he had to wait to let go at Eastbourne and I am between Nottingham & Derby and it was fresh to strong here.
Guest paulrstokes Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Thanks for the updates Kenny. I have 2 birds on their 527 miles to me Paul

Which of course one has to, for this is arguabley the hardest race in the world. Definately in Europe north or South. So good luck to you and everyone that has sent. A great achevment to fly, let alone one win. Of course flying down to you, the West and Devon etc. is even a greater a great trial.Good luck to all those whom have sent.
OLDYELLOW Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 2 big batches of north roaders went down at 9.05 am and 9.25 am this morning ,might help someone
Roland Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 One must remember too, that very few birds fly inland to the very last. They are out at sea between 3 and 15 miles following the coast line in the main. The Grimsby, wash etc. and beyound before turning into flying over land.
Guest paulrstokes Posted June 26, 2011 Report Posted June 26, 2011 Sorry to say he went down at fraserburgh mate Has your candidate i got back to you last year been sent agin Paul.Do you still have him?.disgusting weather for doo's that was.
