david Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 Can somebody kindly explain what is a high count of cocci and worms in racing pigeons by OPG. Thanks DAVID
OLDYELLOW Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 If you have a high count your advised to treat as there numbers are high , surely if you have been tested by a vet they'd offer treatment if not ring them back
david Posted June 22, 2011 Author Report Posted June 22, 2011 Old yellow .. I had asked a simple question and in your usual kind and thoughtful way you have just returned asking me a question. You are meaning well but it is irritating none the less.I will ask again. OLDYELLOW Posted June 22, 2011 Report Posted June 22, 2011 oocysts per gram (opg) a count that was under 3,000 oocysts per gram (opg) of droppings was considered to be normal, with no expected response to treatment. A count of 3,000-20,000 opg was considered to be moderate, with treatment often providing a significant improvement in performance. A count of 20,000-50,000 opg was considered to be severe http://www.albertaclassic.net/chalmers2.php

It seems i have a cociddia ocyst reading of 300opg and a worm count of 100opg ..My Tricho' reading is zeroI have been reading that some dutch vets advocate treating for a cocci count above 250opg...Surely not!!? Thanks Old yellow. DAVID
Tony C Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 David, take a look here http://poultryhealth...ry-registration Has anyone on here subscribed to this, if so would you recommend it?
david Posted June 23, 2011 Author Report Posted June 23, 2011 Yeah Tony.It sounds very good and informative. I have tried to register but it just ignores my confirm button.. I think Graeme parsons was a vet that would pass on advice on this forum at one time .He then vanished!! DAVID

Thanks Old yellow. DAVID I think the continental fanciers treat too much anyway :emoticon-0127-lipssealed: , but like i say ring my vets up there quite happy to answer queries and obviously know far more than i know from a technical point of view great to see someone taking up the microscope will probably save you lots of ££££'s and you'l know exactly what's wrong with your birds , well done :emoticon-0137-clapping: :emoticon-0137-clapping:
