Guest kslicker Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 I have heard this term in relation to Budgerigars. I think spangled is a group of shapes together. I think it is more of an American term, as in 'The Star Spangled banner'.
showman Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 Spangles were originally created by Oliver Dix, and their name comes from the perceived colour of youngsters produced after the introduction of a Hansenne/Logan cock. To my knowledge the term spangle ( in pigeon circles ) is now only a colour reference used in fancy circles. It is also (as stated before) a recognised feathering pattern in Budgerigars, and there are many colour variants within the spangle pattern.By any chance did you see these pigeons advertised on-line ?
nickiclark Posted June 15, 2011 Author Report Posted June 15, 2011 yh i did see it online the man i use to talk to is selling them so we had a chat he calls it a spangles but i call it a grizzle lmao
Guest Freebird Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 I think a spangle has only one colour on each feather where as a grizzle has more than one colour to the feather. Pied tends to be blocks of white over a colour where spangle tends to be single white feathers dispersed fairly evenly over the whole bird. But I may be wrong
peterpau Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 I had Spangles and they came in all colours
Guest KING BILLY Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 I had Spangles and they came in all coloursi had a couple of pairs years ago wish i still had them top doos at the distance still got some deluted ones left but not enouth
Fly_caster Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 Wasn't it Mike Young that had a family which he called "The Spangles" ? They were notable for having frills and tufts, as well as being excellent distance birds. There are still some fanciers (mostly in the SE) that keep fairly strong and true families of these, as Mike Young passed away about 10 years ago AFAIK. Cheers, Steve
