Pig Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I am pretty new to keeping doves but am really enjoying it. I started with normal white garden doves and have had them sucsesfully breed twice now and sitting on another nest. I then purchased 2 garden fantails and the female is now sitting. I just ordered 2 white Jacobins which i am very excited about getting. I am struggling to find information on keeping Jacobins, are you able to help? Thanks Jon
DODC Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 You must clip them when you breed them,Best in a large pen.I Showed some Jacobins a long time ago.

All i know what to do at the min is ring, feed/water and clean out. Sorry to be rubbish at this but would you consider please pointing me in the right direction
DODC Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 When your ready to pair up clip the feathers on the hood off and also tail and fights they will look ugly but they will moult out, i used show racers to rear them.
Pig Posted August 20, 2009 Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 Do you have a link for a website that will give me info like this? I am a lot newer to this than i realised. I shall be doing lots of research before the birds arrive. What are the chances of me being able to release Jacobins to live with my other doves?
DODC Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Jacobins do not fly very well if at all the ones i had did not get out. Type in Jacobins show pigeons and see what happens
chickadee Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 We never clipped our jacobins and they bred just fine, not any good for dovecotes in my opinion
ally mac Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Just be carefull pal, i started with a box on the wall 6 years ago, now got a 24ft loft and aviary, its contagious!!!!!!
