I am thinking of fitting a cat repeller to the loft is there any recomendations of type and where should I fit it, inside or out of the loft and do they effect dogs as I have a couple.

These cat spikes work well if you have fences round your loft. Stopped persistant cat which I believe was deaf as the alarm wouldnt bother it.

If I was going to use anything along that line I would see a carpet fitter for some carpet gripper, they are seriously sharp. You coulsd always put a few more tack through the wood.
