If their fit they go every week right through, when we get to the channel I usually send mostly hens and keep the cocks for the following year.

Providing they are fit, and moult permitting (weatherproof, not bare about face or ears, not on their last 4 flights) I send mine to every Fed race, and I try to choose a couple to go on into YB National.

I like to race them every week if fit and able, I think YBs thrive on routine & week on / week off throws them off? The biggest problem is knowing when to stop them, if you are full into the racing it takes a strong man to leave them at home rather than take them off down the club? If in doubt, leave em out!

I believe this is your first year racing, if this is so emphasis In my opinion should be more on education over racing. Again its my opinion youngsters benefit greatly in being raced in the year of their birth so is going to be a bit of a balancing act.......... when to send and when not. Racing wise avoid strong tail winds also if there's any electrical activity forecast for the day they're best left at home and lastly don't overfeed, it does them more harm than good.

Rather than giving them a measured amount mix barley in with their feed. Hand feed them till they start leaving the barley. If racing your youngsters naturally mix 4 parts mixture to 1 part barley, if racing on the darkness you can add 50% barley.

If you can feed youngsters twice a day all the better, a 1/3 oz morning and all they want of an evening.
