superstar Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 The main one is wired to the modem but all the other five are linked through wireless router You will find the last digit changes -1 -2 -3 etc and all computers even when linked to the same router have their own signature. People on about hiding, well let me tell those people, go commit a crime and you can be found pure and simple it just depends if the crime warrents the effort. Why people on a bloody pigeon site cant be honest and above board is beyond me but goes to show why the sport is in the mess it is. Glad I'm getting out of it!

Mark, personally I agree with, why would anyone want to hide their IP but as you know some do, mainly to cause trouble or wind someone up, we could easily hide our IP but as you say why else would you do it on a pigeon site. I hope you don't pack in because of it :-/
greenlands Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 "Completely hiding the IP address of a device would render it invisible but also unusable online. " The above is taken from http://compnetworking.about.com/od/workingwithipaddresses/f/hideipaddress.htm So this is incorrect ? Lindsay.

gone fishing Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 ip is internet provider the number is universal to an area ie if in virgin, each modem has a mac address issued to you , your pc also has a network card with its own mac address , u can change the mac address on your pc with software u can also change the mac address on your wireless router by the same software , u could if u wanted change the adress on your modem but if u did that then u would not get online . all mac addys are held on record by ip provider so if u changed your mac they would just think u were using another pc or router

Thimbles Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 i p stands for internet provider the reason people can be traced thru them is they have wee smartarses who can then trace from ip where info has been sent or recieved if your on aol and old george next door is you both have the same ip address it is only when they go to your internet provider they can find out which of ya is the smutty bugger lol isp is internet service provider and ip is internet protocol and if you have a static ip it allways stays the same but if you have a dynamic ip it changes every time you connect to the network
