budgie Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 How do you engineer a Team Of Pigeons to perfection without being commercially minded.We all know you have to be competitive and race only to win and to achieve this pigeons have to be in front and racing directly home.They need to be extremly fast , intelligent and must never follow others nor be pushed east or west and hold direct line.
Guest spin cycle Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 alot of commercial lofts follow the formula...move to a good position...send big teams...train like hell...and some treat like hell. nothing engineered just grind. sending a few to distance races is more an art form....something i don't think i'll master i just look to put out the best team i can once a fortnight for the nrcc races. JMO and decent idea for a thread

You can engineer a team all you like Andy, if they're no motivated they'll no win. I suspect you would still have 98% no doing the business. jmo. Cannot agree with most of this post,for a start,no need to be competitive whatsoever,any idiot can set his/her birds a goal and hit it,and no way you race only to win,ridiculous, to say the least.we race 1-2 races per year.1 day we will win,but who knows when.No pigeons race directly to home on a direct line,wind tells the tell.No way they need to be extremly fast,racing Palomas ,Marseille ect,will destroy any bird that flys extremly fast.How can a pigeon be intelligent when it hurts itself race after race,i would have thought the intelligent ones wise up and does not even try and goes awol pretty darn quick.

It was he that came up with the the ideas behind "Positive Reinforcement", and it was both pigeons and dogs, in the main, that he used in his experiments. Although I doubt whether he knew it, he started the ideas behind "Clicker Training" and people like the "Dog Whisperer" have made a fortune out of the ideas. Before Skinner animals like Dolphines and Whales would have benn impossible to train.

Its easier tae buy fae the Pre-potent pairs that are puttin them doon, rather than taking them aff the 98% or trying the aged stock birds that they are trying to off -load.

Doesnt matter what kind o stock in the loft the fact is that the owner put them there wae some faith that they would breed the goods?So my point is that if you have faith in yer breeding then the most important thing is tae get the birds fit for purpose. There is fit then super fit but thats for another thread, recognising the difference is key JMOThe 98% rule has some rough edges for me!Cheers Steven
