billt Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 100% pedigree for me, 4 or 5 generation pedigree of winners and breeders of winners, I've always bought "blind" and never been disappointed when handling the purchase, it costs the same to race birds from various sources as it does to race birds bought in from a proven family
BLACK W F Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 many years ago i was in a crak fanciers loft with 2 old guys who wher going to buy i looked at all his birds and noticed a wee snipy dk hen i asked to handle it i would go as far to say i have never handled its likes again she was fantastic apple bodied fantastic feathering when leaving and the other 2 had bought he said to me would you like to take a bird as a gift i said i,ll take that dk hen he smiled and said she is the best bird i have ever had stopped at 2 with 8x 1st but dam gdam ect to club fed and combine scoreers he said she bred winners for fun i came away with a daughter for free i wish i had them now the best yer ever get are nearly always gifts
bullcock Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 nope not what i mean i know folk who wont buy a pigeon dosent matter what its of if they dont get a paper pedigree with all the past relatives on it loadsa ring numbers and birds colour the paper dont make it better , its about getting them from the top producers or top winning birds , wouldnt bother me even if they were not rung as long as i could gaurantee they were from a certain bird or birdsI understand were your coming from, as you say you dont need a piece of paper to show if a birds any good or not.a pedigree does contain all the performances and ring numbers etc... but it more importantly contains the family tree, the gene pool, the blood you are intrestred in, so you dont need a pedigree to see fancy performances but you do need to know the blood line of the bird, but if you go straight to the source and trust them then the pedigree is not required just trust in a good fancier with good birds.
Guest jim lad Posted January 12, 2011 Report Posted January 12, 2011 they say the apple doesnt fall far from tree so to me the pedigree is important if i like the pigeon and its got a strong eye ill try to buy
