To my way of thinking the idea of pairing up is to produce the very best youngsters possible. Cold dark days are not the right thing to do that. It is the lengthening hours of light that allows the cocks to increase the size of his testes and the long dark nights will be very bad for the old birds to feed their babies. Unless you are able to counteract the winter conditions, you will be far better off waiting until conditions improve. On a personal basis, I find that my later bred youngsters will win races against the early bred youngsters all day.

I believe this is the "traditional" day for pairing up, after all it is Valentines day and there are always long lost old truths behind these occasions.
