Guest joshdonlan Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I ve got a new loft arriving in a couple of weeks from Blakes. Has anyone got any pictures of there nest boxes and perches which i could copy the design? I have tried to copy nest boxes from catalogues before, but i could do with some clearer pictures. Thanks for the help

Guest karl adams Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 i find that making boxs all in 1 block is the best way and saves time n money
Guest karl adams Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 it cost me £ 40 to make a block of 12 nest boxs
OLDYELLOW Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 can get sheets of chipboard 8 x 4s at £5
Guest joshdonlan Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Karl, them boxes look great. How are the pieces of wood held together, with brackets or nailed etc? Thanks
Guest joshdonlan Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 some good looking birds there too
ribble Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 What type of wood would people recommend for nest boxes?
Guest joshdonlan Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Hi Karl That looks a very good way of constructing them. Are you in the woodworking industry? I think that i would find it hard to cut the slots acurately.
Guest karl adams Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 i cut them with a jig saw i work out what size boxs im going to make then i go to b&q and have them cut the 8 by 4 board to the size i need
T_T Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I visited RV Woodcraft at Dover and found that he uses nothing but Ply. When I made mine a few years ago I used sheets of 8'x4' x 3/4" Chipboard, cut them to the size I wanted and fixed them with proper Chipboard screws and their still as good as new. With the Chipboard being 3/4" thick, It's plenty wide enough to accept a screw without making a mess of it, that's if you didn't want to cut slots out of course.
