Very Dirty Tail

Had a bird in today that i lost racing this year. It looks like it has been in a very dirty loft as every nail had big balls of muck on them and its tail is really dirty, looks like it has been on a perch and every thing has messed on its tail.Is there anything you would recommend that i can use to clean the birds tail and get it back to normal.

hot water sounds like maybe been in fields or a cock bird scruffing after a hen in a minging loft.think their will be a few of us that get yb,s back after being missing as the picking in the fields will be getting scarce

just leave it to have a couple of warm baths and it will sort itself out.
