Guest marksimpson Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 good afternoon to all can any one tell me if it is possible to get pylon wires flagged or as they do in Belg put balls round the cables so as the birds can see them more clearly please pm me with any info yours in sport mark
mitch Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 never seen them here mate, would save a lot of young birds not just pigeons
Guest Hjaltland Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 The answer is yes.. We have several power lines around us marked with discs so the birds can see them, however I generally lose a couple of yb's each year because of them hitting wires
Back garden fancier Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I used to live near some power lines, and in my worst year I lost 14 young birds. Was always the top thin wire, just used to watch helpless as they flew through it and got cut to bits. Moved now !
Guest marksimpson Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I used to live near some power lines, and in my worst year I lost 14 young birds. Was always the top thin wire, just used to watch helpless as they flew through it and got cut to bits. Moved now ! thanks for your replies as Ive just got back into this sport its a bit disheartening as you say to see them just get cut to bits breed 40 youngens down to 33 not had a tranning toss yet ?
Guest Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 find the company and tell them what you would like done [put up discs ] if they say they dont do it then tell them you will bill them for each bird killed and you will report them to the RSPB for causing the death of birds when it can be avoided ,either way if they do put up something to help make sure you write a letter of thanks ,
Guest chrisss Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 find the company and tell them what you would like done [put up discs ] if they say they dont do it then tell them you will bill them for each bird killed and you will report them to the RSPB for causing the death of birds when it can be avoided ,either way if they do put up something to help make sure you write a letter of thanks , good post this, its what 3 of us done[from 3 different lofts all local],and it worked!!!!
Roland Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Is an obligation for wires to be corked by law if asked ... or was, but I bet they try and opt out... use to be the P.P's job of course, but would say that all companies are under the say rules.... Perhaps scouring the internet will bring fruitful results, as bound to be there somewhere. God luck.
nipper Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 You could always phone the RSPB and tell them you put a couple of sparrow hawks in the bin last week that flew into the wires !!!! They would re-route the whole flaming cable !!!! By the end of the week !!!!!
Roland Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 ;DYou could always phone the RSPB and tell them you put a couple of sparrow hawks in the bin last week that flew into the wires !!!! They would re-route the whole flaming cable !!!! By the end of the week !!!!! ;D ;D ;D
DUBLINFLYER Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 know a bloke who paid to get the wires put under ground (3500 euro) he said it woz the best money he ever spent
Guest IB Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 I was reading Scottish and Southern Electrics Environmental Policy towards birds and Overhead Transmission Lines. If you can show they are causing deaths amongst your birds, they will fit 'reflectors' .. what's good for one Company is surely good for the rest (Northern Ireland Electric do the same) so contact your Power Company.
DOVEScot Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 You could always phone the RSPB and tell them you put a couple of sparrow hawks in the bin last week that flew into the wires !!!! They would re-route the whole flaming cable !!!! By the end of the week !!!!! NOW YOUR TALKING, COULD BE A GREAT WAY TO ACCOUNT FOR SUDDEN DEATHS
jimmy white Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 pylon wires have been a big hazard in pigeon racing , there's nothing they can do about these ,[for this time being] telephone wires used to be" corked" if you phoned B,T now thet dont do this , but discs are the best things on telephone wires , if you can diy,,
pigeonscout Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 Two swans = (pigeons) were killed on power lines on my flight line it was reported and 3 days later the lines had markers on them.
OLDYELLOW Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 thought BT was good at corking wires and adding spinning spirals on wire , i know they used to
Mr Yorkie Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 Got ours done at the end of last season; just drop them an email. It does take a bit of time though as it isn't seen as 'priority'.
jimmy_84 Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 whats the e-mail as i live under wires and i need something doing to them
Roland Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 has to be done still ... if asked for. If say Swans were likely to hit them, or any birds it becomes a priority... just hard to get them to shake their ars into gear eh!
Guest marksimpson Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 Got ours done at the end of last season; just drop them an email. It does take a bit of time though as it isn't seen as 'priority'. was they pylon wires or bt ?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 local fancier harry even had post moved teliphone with 8 wires
mac1 Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 power lines are the least of my worrys when you see whats right beside my loft,a wind turbine thats goes like a helicopter in the last three years must of killed 20 or more pigeons,we sent letters in to the school it powers after a bit chew its agreed to certain times when the turbines on so if you miss the time your knackered its off 7am till 10am,then 4pm till 7am
traynor Posted August 3, 2008 Report Posted August 3, 2008 one of my youngsters must of grzaed a power cable yesterday because when he come in half of his feathering on his belly was ripped off and his skin was all brusied and he allso broke one of his legs, thought at first a hawk might of gripped him but there was no cuts, so say he probably skimmed a power cable. lucky escape whatever happed.
