Guest numpty01 Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 theres an old adage that size dosent matter, in the sixties ther was a fella called lichfield who flew cattryse to little lofts like these and i think there is a bhw scribe who suffers from pfl who flies to small rabbit hutch type boxes.please correct me if im wrong. that old adage was said by woman that was telling porkys to her husband just befor she left him ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;Dthread needs some humor

pjc Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Don's look more suitable than Micko's with the traps etc but doesn't seem alot of access to clean out etc.
adamant Posted April 23, 2009 Author Report Posted April 23, 2009 thanks for the pictures. i will post some of mine when done
the pigeon_milker Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 adamants is built loads better than them (tho sticking his on legs like that maybe a good idea) $1.89 for that rabbit hutch is not worth it i could build much better my self for that money and i not a joiner the second one looks ok but don't think it would last long in my location i worry about ours blowing away and that weighs a ton and is fixed to the ground last year the caravan was blown across the field
pjc Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Ventilation is much better, how dark is it inside during the day?
adamant Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 some more changes... will these perches that i made work?
adamant Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 after i install the perches its ready for paint..
Guest Owen Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 The rabbit hutch type of lofts are ideal to house strays, bearing in mind that you should not allow them anywhere near your birds. This sort of houseing will be valueable when the YB strays start to become a problem. I like the idea of the mesh floors, but I think I would like some sort of tray under it so that there is no build up of smelly droppings under the thing.
Peckedhen Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 Its looking good - if you put as much work into the birds as you are the loft, you should be very successful. The perches will work - they'll perch on anything - one of mine insists on perching on the bolt inside the door! ;D You might find that the lower ones get droppings dumped on them : How about running those perches horizontally, then stagger the next row of perches under them?? Will the rain not run off the roof onto the floor of the aviary? Some sort of gutter maybe? No need to paint inside the loft, just treat the exterior.
Guest vining45 Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 can light get throgh roof mine has sky lites in it but loft got wet with condinsation so put a thin plastic sheet with small gap between about 1in like double glazing that cured it
klorinth Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 I may have just missed someone else making this comment..., but I just noticed that rain is going to run right off the roof and into the loft through the top trap. This is an issue that has been discussed on other forums, especially with shed style buildings.
Peckedhen Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Ermm, yeah, I said so just two posts about yours!! ;D ;D
little sam Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 As suggested run a piece of guttering along the front,
swilcox Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Little more light and air!!!! Looks to be quality made. Stuart
milecrosslofts Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 he is not done. need to put on the cage. after he is done i may have to make some changes. what do u think? is it for rollers as a kit box
Guest mikkey Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 that looks pretty good to me now and maybe looks big enough to house a kit of rollers. if your just gonna keep a few birds for you and your lad to enjoy i would definetly reccomend rollers, they come in all kinds of nice colours and you would enjoy watching them perform, then again im a rollerman myself so i would say that would'nt i :). if your minds set on racers i reckon you'll get 6 in there pretty comfortably.....good luck with it mate
