Hi all,

OK so I have decided to make more sections in my loft. Currently I have an 18ft x 9ft which is split into 2 equal sections. I am looking to make 3 or 4 sections for next year and would appreciate if any1 can guide me as to how to do it. I am thinking that 4 would be best so that I can have Cocks, Hens Young Birds and Stock Birds. In the future I hope to have Stock in a totally different loft but that isnt an option this time. So can any1 help me with either a guide to how to make partitions although the bigger problem is how to fit the doors or a link on how to do it. The loft includes a 2.5ft corridor and 2 sliding doors on the front with a trap on each door although I am considering removing them from the doors and just having 1 trap in a more central position.

I think I have explained what I am doing ok but if it is unclear please say so and I will try and elaborate. :)

Any and all advice and help will be appreciated.

Thanks :)

foxy if I read you right , I think 4 sections is to small it will mean each section

would be 4 1/2 foot wide not enough space, better with 3 sections of 6 foot.

Respectful suggestion;

I get the feeling that carpentry/joinery isn't your forte ? If not, get a local chippie/joiner - he'll turn it our for you just as you want, to a reasonably high standard in a few days. He'll give you a fixed price - and assuming you make no changes during the alteration - then that is what you pay.

He'll also be able to advise what is possible and suggest any alternatives.

Just my thoughts.

Best of luck,

I would do away with the corridor to maximize space, being 9' deep you could then put perches/boxes on the sides of the end sections.

My post was in answer to the first poster and thread starter - that is not to say that I'm not absolutely delighted that you have a trade and that you use it ! B)

Cheers,

Think if you keep your eye out on flea-bay you could pick up a small 8x6ft or 6x4ft garden shed, local for very little money which would be ideal for stock.

Remember a fancier using his spare bedroom for stock pigeons as another option

The way you could make 3 sections in my view in your loft is possibly as mentioned to pull the corridor out and build 3 sections of 6ft (or as close as possible) and take the 2 sputniks off and replace with a bob wire system in place of the perspex/mesh with hinged plywood to protect the trap from cats etc when not about.

There is most likely a sensible amount of wood here including dowelling you could use to get you started off with the idea if you wanted it.

Think will be in Spalding a week on Saturday so quite happy to pop down and see if can get some plan for you with it.

Nice gesture !

Chris,

Once again you have shown by word and gesture what a great guy you are. :)

I will give you a bell over the weekend to sort out the other thing too.

Thanks :)
