Guest Adam Roberts Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Hello, Wonder if anyone can help me. I came home yesterday (Sept 1st 2010) to be greeted by a pigeon at my back door. It was obviously used to people as it wasn't afraid of me. It was obviously not willing to fly away either. It has a red ring on its right leg with the number PL0350-09-14627 on it. From what I gather looking online it's a Polish bird. Poor thing is way off course. I have put it in the garage out of harm's way under a cage like plastic box with water and some general bird feed mix. Can anyone help me find the bird's owner, or some means of getting the bird to a safe place. I'm not convinced the bird is well, but it is standing there and moves around slowly. Wings don't appear to be damaged. It may well just be knackered, so I will put it out in the garden when I get home today and see if it flies away. E-mails to adda.roberts@gmail.com would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Guest Adam Roberts Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Thanks for the information. I have tried the Polish site yesterday and sent an e-mail but no reply. Also found a local site forum for the town where 0350 seems to be the registered area, no response there either yet. Would like to get the bird to someone who knows what they are doing, don't like keeping it like this as I don't want the poor thing getting even more disorientated or ill. Is normal mixed bird feed ok for it, or is it best to give it something else. Would also appreciate any suggestions for alternative contacts should none of the Polish routes work out. I did think it may be owned by a Pole living here in the UK, but there doesn't appear to be any way of linking up to whoever owns it.

Guest Adam Roberts Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 In addition to an earlier post. This pigeon found in my garden in Surrey. Is alive and kept in my garage out of harm's way. Will see if it flies off later when I get home. If anyone knows who owns it please mail me on adda.roberts@gmail.com

Guest IB Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 I've merged both threads. Hopefully a fancier in Surrey will be able to take care of this bird until it is claimed. It may be registered with RPRA?
PIGEON_MAN Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 Spoke to a local secretary down that way hopefully bird will be picked up tonight.
Guest Adam Roberts Posted September 3, 2010 Report Posted September 3, 2010 Just to let you know a local guy came to collect the pigeon so it could be looked after until the owner can be contacted. It was certainly a lot better when I got home, a day's rest, some bird seed and water helped. Thanks everyone for your contributions, very happy the bird is now in good hands. What a good community you have to be able to sort that out in such a short space of time. Very impressed.
