I think but I might be wrong the only pigeon that won't be attacked with percy are the non flying type, anything that goes up in the air will get hammered.

Lindsay

agree with lindsay but then the likes of fntails will become easy pickings for sparrowhawks goshawks if there about

There was a link on here to a very interesting article on Oriental Flying Rollers, which were prized for their ability to foil raptor attacks, even peregrines. It was an American Site, and they used these birds to safeguard their racers. The Orientals were let out first, they did their stuff which attracted attacks - unsuccessful attacks, the raptors soon learning there was no meal to be had there, so the loft and racers were left alone.

There was a link on here the other day describing pigeons that are used to Catch Percy, apparently they can make the falcon chase them into a loft and the door is shut behind the falcon. Sorry i canny remember which thread it was on or the name of the birds, the afforementioned Orientals ring a bell though.

most peregrine strikes are training and racing although if it keeps going we will be in lock down in two or three years

Both the original thread here and the web item are now gone. I've had a look on the web but can't find the article. There was reference in it that the 'flying' oriental roller was bred for its ability to avoid being taken by hawks, that the breed was not to be confused with the 'show' variety, and they were used to protect the loft from attack because the hawks soon gave up trying to catch them.

Two websites give an inkling of their ability:-

Attack – picture & words describing an attack.

Attack Avoidance – just a mention in there that these birds ‘fly towards the attacking hawk’.

There was a good article on here a few months ago that said Catalonian Tumblers were good at avoiding BOP. It said there was a couple of fanciers in Scotland

Hi John. The Escampadissa Roller is the one you’re talking about for catching Bop's

Regarding the outflying of Bop’s this roller fancier is convinced but as previously said would only help the racers around the loft. These birds (Catalonian tumblers) were allegedly developed to fly against falconers birds. Interestingly both these breeds are Spanish.
