shweet Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Would someone be able to tell me what distance a sprint pigeon is meant to fly up to and the same for a middle distance and a long distance pigeon. Thanks Wayne.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Would someone be able to tell me what distance a sprint pigeon is meant to fly up to and the same for a middle distance and a long distance pigeon. Thanks Wayne. sprint - 200Middle - 450Long - 450 and above Though there are many variations depending on the terrain of were the pigeons fly to and the wind on the day of a race, not an easy one to answer Wayne Got more to do with the time on the wing rather than the distance
shweet Posted August 7, 2010 Author Report Posted August 7, 2010 Ok thanks for that, so if I wanted to excel with young birds at club level would I be right in saying it would make sense to buy Sprint pigeons.
aye ready Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Ok thanks for that, so if I wanted to excel with young birds at club level would I be right in saying it would make sense to buy Sprint pigeons.if you want to excel at club racing then i would go for sprint to middle distance based pigeons but as gareth says different pigeons are needed for spending time on the wing which distance racing is partly about

No use dominating sprints with them as young birds then only getting them to 200/250mls as old birds. The prizes and pool money available in yb racing is far short of the OB's, In my opinion if you only have sprinters you will lose too many birds if they get a tough race as they will run out of stamina pretty rapid. jmo's
Guest Davy Fleming Posted August 7, 2010 Report Posted August 7, 2010 Would say anyone starting up should go for the middle distance material and get a bit of experience and much enjoyment over the whole of season and not just the first 5/6 races then think about what what you want to do. Out and out sprinters are only for the more experienced as they will also have something in the loft for later on in the season at the bigger distance. Then you will get the distance guys who know what they are doing anyway.
