johnny11 Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Hi All sorry for yet another on YBS. I have noticed that my young birds are holding corn. The droppings are good and they are still flying. So with only holding corn being the only symptoms what is best route to take with my birds. I have had three tosses from 5 miles but on basketing them this morning noticed the corn, so left them.
Guest IB Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 The birds may not be holding corn, could be bird was first at the feeder the feed before and took on a right cargo. I'd pop each suspect bird on its own into a spare box with only a jar of water with cider vinegar. Just a precaution, first to check that the bird is digesting food OK, and second so that if bird does bring anything up, there are no other birds going to be eating vomited grains, and so spreading the infection.
Tony C Posted July 1, 2010 Report Posted July 1, 2010 Re YBS. A vet put it to me like this, ybs is comparable to us humans having glandular fever, a high temperature, muscles ache, fatigue etc. The first thing to do is keep them confined to the loft, first and foremost they need to be rested. I personally would then put them on a course of antibiotics (4 in 1) to stop any secondary infection taking hold. All being well you'll see a vast improvement in 4-6 days and have them back on the road in 7-9 days.
johnny11 Posted July 3, 2010 Author Report Posted July 3, 2010 Hi Guys Thanks for the replies. Generally the birds are well its just the holding of corn, look well droppings fine. Did not feed for 24 hours put some amoxicillin in water for two days. Fed them barley only last night and yet they still had some in them this morning. They wil be fed now with diet and cinnamon on the corn with cider vinegar in the water

Guest strapper Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 id advise you to keep an eye on them for the next few days.see if there is any change in this happening.if the crops still are holding corn then you will best be having them checked out. but there can be several reasons why some have corn still in their crops.
