JohnQuinn Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 What food would I feed if I wanted my birds to lose weight ? When we go on a diet, we eat less of the same things we eat anyway, so i suggest you feed half to 3 quarters of what you give them every day. Keep it up 'til your happy with their weight and then try no to let them get fat again!
Guest spin cycle Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 IMO cut out any maize but don't starve them put 25 % barley in ration and train the weight off round the loft
Guest IB Posted June 18, 2010 Report Posted June 18, 2010 Agree with John Quinn, its down to the amount you feed. My birds were confined most of last winter and I fed mainly barley. I expected the birds to lose weight, one of them actually gained weight so fast I thought he had a tumour. Disagree with starvation, you destroy the gut wall, its mucous lining and the good bacteria lining the mucous leaving the bird open to infection through the gut. I reduced the bird by 2 ounces in 10 days by feeding a teaspoon of barley a day, and was given 'game bird tonic' to put in the water during this diet period. The stuff stinks and costs a mint, but have a butchers on the web at what is in it.
