IrishFancier Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 Does anyone have problems with bent keels and how can they be prevented.
Peckedhen Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 Calcium tablets whilst in the nest, as soon as you notice the problem. If you catch it soon enough it can be cured.
Guest Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 is there any grit and minerals in the lofts? should have it before the eggs were laid not when hatched out ,its the sudden push upwards by the baby when coming out the egg that causes the bend in the keel which will stay that way for the rest of its life ;D ;D ;D ;D
Wiley Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 yes sammy grit and minerals should be infront at all times, however there must be some form of weakness in the pigeons bones i would imagine, as i can honestly say have never came across the problem

Guest Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Hi There Sorry I am new in the illness of pigeons? what is keel and what are the signs etc? for a novice thnaks keel is a bone underneath the pigeon ;D ;D ;D
Roland Posted May 11, 2007 Report Posted May 11, 2007 Never have, and can't see how a bent keel is, or can be a problem. Many outstanding pigeons have exce;;ed with them.
Clarkey1990 Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 Not if there show pigeons Roland its a major fault
Peckedhen Posted May 12, 2007 Report Posted May 12, 2007 A boat with a bent keel won't do very well in a race - surely the same will apply to a pigeon? :-/
Wiley Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 A boat with a bent keel won't do very well in a race - surely the same will apply to a pigeon? :-/ nail on the head they wont do very well in a race but some good pigeons have been bred of birds with bent keels
Guest Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 as long as its just the keel thats bent then there should not be any problems ;D ;D ;D ;D
Roland Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Not if there show pigeons Roland its a major fault True of course, stand corrected, but thought it was a referal to 'Racing Pigeons'.
Clarkey1990 Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 True of course, stand corrected, but thought it was a referal to 'Racing Pigeons'. Sorry thought u were talkin about fancy pigeons :)
Guest Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Sorry thought u were talkin about fancy pigeons :) So did I as it was posted in the fancy pigeon section ???
mac1 Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 today was the 1st time ive handled all my ybs at once and one of them has i bent keel,i always have grit+ minerals and they fly well over an hour and are in perfect health any ideas why this one is like this
Guest Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 it when it hatched and forces thwe egg upwards that causes the bend
Clarkey1990 Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Why would it affect a racing pigeons performance??
Roland Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 It wouldn't. But of course it would in the show pen, especially the 'Handling ones.
