sapper756 Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Today is the 25th anniversary of the Bradford City Football Club, where lives were lost, when a wooden stand caught fire. God Bless those who lost their lives, and those who are left with the horrible memories of that day. Thank goodness for progress, and no longer are stands built with wood.http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif
Guest Mav Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 25 years, where does time go?, Remember watching it unford on our local tv station, Yorkshire televsion. The one memory i have more than others was the policeman running on the feild with his hair on fire. Why do we remember the shocking things in life more than the good things. Resting in peace i hope.
Guest IB Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 Yes I do remember seeing that on TV, the game had been stopped by the time I came home, there was footage of a 'wee fire' in one corner of the stand, folk didn't appear too bothered, then in what seemed like a few minutes to me, the whole stand was a raging inferno. Only during the later months when the same footage was analysed again on TV by fire experts was it explained what we were seeing, the guy 'patting his head' because his hair was on fire, the guy putting his hood up, it was smoking, because it was about to burst into flames caused by heat from fire, though he appeared a long ways from it. Instinct saved lots that day, and folk that died did bring about massive change in football stadia design, a lasting legacy to them, like the Leeds, Hillsburgh? disaster, that massive crush, terrible it takes loss of life before change happens..
