Guest dodgydaz Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 just let my birds out, 1 of my hens (which raced at weekend) wouldnt take up with the others, i tried once to make her fly but she like jumped up tried to take up but couldnt as if she didnt have the energy to, i opened the door and she just waddled back in, can anyone offer any advice as to what they think it might be? i have checked her over with no bumps or scrapes anywhere, she hasnt got any eggs or young, so could it be she is due for laying and this is obviously taking alot out of her??????
greenlands Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Might be something simple ?, try giving her some calcium.Lindsay
pigeonpete Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Yes could be due to lay, or may have taken a knock, and got brusing you cant see, and just a bit soor, give her a soak in some warm water, will help if either of those 2, You could damage your leg or arm, but wont always be visable hope shes o.k. give her a day or 2 in box with plenty grit etc, see how she goes. all the best.
OLDYELLOW Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 my first thoughts with it been a hen is calcium deficency , also if fed to lightly pre race the muscle mass may have been lossed too , not all bumps / bruises are always visable , so give more protein to help repair , other than that a reluctancy to fly may be canker after that a trip to the vet all the best Mark
Guest mick bowler Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Its rare a hen flying out has calcium problem, i've never had one. Sounds like she may taken a knock, theres not always external signs and internal bruising will create swelling inside, so although she came home it will stop her from flying later on. Could also be an egg bind problem, just check her out.
Guest peter4pm Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 sounds like its had a knock buddy from a perch or a box ...i had one of mines do that a while ago ..was flying funny ..like the right wing was crippled..i like you , checked for the lumps or signs of bleeding ect ..found nothing ..but after around a month it was back to normal again...just keep an eye on it ...let it have a bath ..i find more baths the better when injured ect .
BLUERON Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 i had a roller hen who wont fly because she was due to lay(i did not know at the time)
