I just bought a new one also, I had a Cannon Power shot 60 That I used at work and liked how it worked . They upgraded now to the A510  or A520 Power shot which is at a good price for what you get $187 US dollars at Staples. I can take up to 80 photoes on the card that comes with the camera it has a 4x power zoom lens and 4 MEGA pixels

Hi Speight,

I like Nikon cameras ive had 2, I dont think it is necessary to have too many pixels my first one was 8 million pixels and my new one is 5 million which is still produces great quality pics

Ask in the shop for a model with a fast shutter speed, the problem i have with digital cameras is that the lens doesnt close as soon as you press the button, they all have a slight delay, and when you are taking pics of birds they move before the pic is taken, so one with less of a delay would be good.

I find the guys in the camera shops are very helpful, tell them your budget and what you want it for (one guy told be he personally didnt like the kodak ones)

hope this helps ya

I got a nice one a couple of years ago, nothing flash, but it still takes a good photo. 2 million pixels is enough for my use. If your thinking of changing your mobile phone, try and get one with a good camera built in; I'm thinking of getting one of the new sony phones, 2 million pixel camera built in (no need for a seperate camera then :)), about £80 I think at the moment.

Ive got 2 digital camares. One cheap one, Kodak easy share, the same as Carl, that I got to keep a record of the pigeons on my lap top. The other was for our Lass so she can take holiday snaps. There is no difference with the quality of the pics, so if its just to take pics, of the birds speight, go for the Kodak.

ive got one had it for a while very good all round, its a SONY:CYBER-SHOT, 2.0 mega pixels, and just bought a new gadget, a pair of binoculars with a camera in in it very usful for getting pictures from a distance, what u see through the binoculars is the photo u take, must get up to the loft and get some for the online show, been a bit busy lately, all the best

Speight,

Go for the Kodak and you will not be disapointed on the pictures you take, they are clear as a bell and good quality, again is all depends on the price you want to spend for a camera.I got the kodak and the printing doc last year from santa, and have had no problems with the quality of pics i have taken with it.

Interesting info. Seen these cameras in action with the actual photo 'shot' displayed in full detail on the 'reverse' side. Had always thought they were very expensive but see local supermarket does a 5meg for under £70.

Lost on the download-to-computer drive C bit though. The camera seems to store the data on what looks to me like a mini-disc. I've only a CD-ROM drive and a floppy drive. Is there a direct camera / drive C link that I'm missing and what port is it?

They come with software to transfer your photos from camera to computer via a cable on a USB port. Sometimes you get one that comes with a memory card, and a memory card reader that plugs into your USB, this is usually for extra storage on the camera, however I find the built in memory sufficient.
