celtic Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Any ideas on what to do with a cock thaat is constantly having a go at the other birds whether they be cocks or hens ? it is not as if he is protecting his box he just wants to have a go at anything else in the loft, all the other birds are settled and a few are on eggs so i don't want it to go on for much longer if possible. cheers
speedbird Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 is he on eggs too? if not he may settle once his hen lays is so is he going into other boxes & fighting?
Tony C Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Celtic there's a couple of things you could try, put a clip-on ring on his non ring leg and tie a piece of string (about 3 inches) to that and his ring, you do this so he can walk and get about but as soon as he fights he cant get a decent purchase/foothold as hes unable to spread his legs. Another thing you could try is to put a piece of cardboard on the front of his nestbox so he cant see out, this sometimes helps.
Chatrace Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Put him in a box and slap him silly, watch him if he goes aftr another bird slap him again. he might understand his own actions can be reversed :-) If that doesn't work give him about 4 inches of oxygen.
celtic Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 He has,nt got a hen at the moment ...the reason being he attacks any bird that goes near him !! hen or cock.
carl Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Any ideas on what to do with a cock thaat is constantly having a go at the other birds whether they be cocks or hens ? it is not as if he is protecting his box he just wants to have a go at anything else in the loft, all the other birds are settled and a few are on eggs so i don't want it to go on for much longer if possible. cheers I have an idea POOL THAT BIRD ON RACE DAY as thats what you want in a widowhood cock ?
Guest speckled Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 ;D Try giveing him a hen, but lock her in one side of the box,Put a widow frount between them, :-/ & lock the cock the other side, give the hen the nest pan with little bit of nest material.Feed & water both pigeons in the box for a bout 2 days then let the cock out. with he hen still locked,in :-/ see what the cock does then.if he returns to the box try letting him in with the hen,if he starts fight with her after 5 mins take him out, lock him back up :-/ try this see how it goes .I had that trouble this is what i tryed worked for me. Speckled
celtic Posted February 14, 2006 Author Report Posted February 14, 2006 Speckled I,ve tried exactly what you said already ! if anyone on here has ever kept ferrets he's like a big old hob ferret that is anti social to everything around him, there are two spare boxes but he is,nt interested in them and prefers to walk around the loft floor looking for his next victim. Carl Unfortunetly i don't fly widowhood or your idea might have been an option.
Guest speckled Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 ;D ;D lol Celtic ;D Well throw the anti social think out of the loft all day, see if he like that, ;D ;D ;D what about if he like the floor so much :-/put a nest pan on the floor with a board over it see if he like that :-/ if he owns the floor.Another thought Speckled.
Diamond dave Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Hi Celtic, Why dont you try putting a strange cock in there with him - He'll spend more time worrying about him and hopefully he might leave the other birds alone - I'm sure hell take to a box, if not both of the spare boxes!!
snowy Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 had one myself this year, he is an 05 cock, i know they are all a bit cocky at that age, but this one was vicious, he is still not paired up, but just started to today, ;D

celtic Posted February 15, 2006 Author Report Posted February 15, 2006 Just been out to check on the birds and " pyscho" is still trying to get out of the nest box to get his beak into another victim.
speedbird Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 have you tried puting in a seperate hut with a hen to see if he takes to her this way or is he aggresive there too
jimmy white Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 split the box in two with the cock in one side and hen in the other, both locked in, put the two of them out everyday themselves, then as soon as their in ,lock them up again.seperately so they can see each other, theyll eventually pair, itll give the other pairs a bit of peace, when his hen has laid hell settle down,,,,hopefully
