T_T Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 How's peoples hatchings going ? for the first time for many, many year, I havn't treated for the deadly four before pairing, Worms, Cocci, Resp. Canker. I have had a 100% hatch. anybody else had good results, it would be nice to use it perhaps as some sort of guide line.
THE FIFER Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 I HAD A FEW SINGLE EGGS ONLY HATCHING BUT PUT IT DOWN TO THE VERY COLD WERATHER WE HAVE BEEN HAVING AND BIRDS NOT GETTING OUT AS MUCH
MsPigeon Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 I have had 99% all hatch and I did treat with 5 in 1 before the breeding season. Have had excellent babies and put it down to the Purina pellets mixed with grain mix. We have been having cool and rainy weather so our birds don't get out daily either. Carol
Peckedhen Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 I treated (well a friend did) for cocci, canker and worms - managed a disappointing 50% hatch rate. They are all (all four pairs) on eggs again and I'm hoping for more success this time.
celtic Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 What age would the yb's be when the parents go down on eggs again. (roughly)
T_T Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 Hi Peckedhen, Have you always treated before pairing ? as I've said, I ALWAYS have except this year and bearing in mind how cold it's been, I am delighted with the result.
Peckedhen Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 I'm new to pigeons, this is the first time I've bred any. I just went along with the advise given by a fancier friend. Celtic......my birds laid a second round when their youngsters were 22 days old.
Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Not too clever so far; one of my hens has laid only one egg in her 1st round 2 years in succession, though both eggs hatched OK. New (9 year-old) hen August last year and not been out, laid several rounds ok with a young cock last year which I didn't take, her 1st clutch this year look like duds, one especially noticeable - an airsac the full length of the egg and taking up most of space inside??? and the other is clear. Strangest ones though are two latebred cocks, nest mates, both 'sitting' around 14 days. Just won't sit; watched one today, lucky if he spelled hen for half an hour and buffets her while she's sitting, so she's up and out of the box a lot too. Other cock is in the bowl calling, with the hen sitting on him trying to sit the eggs under him. Definitely no fostering for either pair.
peterpau Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 treated for worms a month before pairing will treat for cancker when all eggs laid. birds go down for the second nest 10-14 days
Guest shadow Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 99% HATCH RATE treated for nothing, hatched 16 still got 16 flying out.
Guest cloudview Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 same as last post , did all you that treated , have them tested at vets etc etc before hand if not why treat blindly
celtic Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Peckedhen, my yb's are 22 days tomorrow, no sign of any more eggs yet .
Peckedhen Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 I don't know if it makes any difference but, have you moved your youngsters onto the loft floor? :-/
