Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Up North Combine has an open race this weekend and officially starts April 8th.
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Sbelbin, are you going to send the birds for the open race?...our club don't send to the open races.
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 THINK OUR FIRST RACE IS ON 15TH APRIL SBELBIN HOW DO U LOT UP THERE MANAGE GET YOUR BIRDS READY FOR RACES THAT EARLY WEATHER BEEN PRETTY LOUSY DOWN HERE COLD NE WINDS NOT THE SORT OF WEATHER I WOULD WANT START TRAINING MY BIRDS IN Rose, what miles is your first race? our shortest race is 58 miles : Selby
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 ROSE ,HOW ABOUT COMING FARTHER NORTH TO SCOTLAND TO GET BAD WEATHER FOR RACING BIRDS? USUALLY OUR SEASON BEGAN IN MID APRIL BUT FINALLY A LITTLE BIT OF COMMON SENSE HAS PREVAILED AND THEY HAVE PUT BACK OUR SEASON TWO WEEK'S TO TRY AND LET THE WEATHER IMPROVE A BIT AND EVEN AT THIS TIME WE ARE ONLY TALKING ABOUT HEAVY SHOWERS AND MAYBE ONLY A LIGHT SNOW SHOWER.
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 OUR FIRST RACE IS ON 22ND OF APRIL :)DONT LAUGH ITS 42MILES :B :B :B
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Rose, there are a lot of nutters up here who have been training in all sorts of weather, so some will be ready, but mine havent seen the basket yet and wont until we get some better weather, and I probably wont send till the third race, when hopefully it will be a bit warmer. Craig, no-one in our club is sending to the open race either.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 CLOCKMAN. WHY WOULD ANYBODY LAUGH AT YOUR FIRST RACE JUST BECAUSE IT IS SHORT.HAVING A SHORTER RACE AT THE START OF THE SEASON IS PROBABLY THE BEST IDEA AS I FELT OUR SEASON STARTED WITH RACES WHICH SEEMED A BIT FAR TO START WITH. THIS YEAR WE START AT KELSO WHICH IS ABOUT 60 MILES TO ME.
T_T Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Hi Tammy, We get away on the 8th April, a distance of 98mls. When our youngsters start, in Aug, they also start at 98mls. I will miss the channel racing because I used to go up to my front bedroom window and look directly across the channel. I often have friends up the country when they are racing over the pond, phone me to for a quick forcast, wind, cloud, visibility etc.
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 We start on april 15th with three released from 125 miles
Pompey Mick Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Rose, the Solent Fed starts on the 22nd April so you have another week for it to warm up.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 HI T_T I MIGHT JUST TAKE YOU UP ON THAT OFFER OF ACALL FOR THE FORECAST AS OUR LONGEST INLAND RACE IS WAY DOWN THERE IN MAIDSTONE THAT IS IF WE GET RACING THAT FAR IN TO THE SEASON [JULY].AS LONG AS WE STAY CLEAR OF BIRD FLU WE SHOULD, HOPEFULLY.
T_T Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Please give me a call if you want a Sat weather brief. It might be a good idea if we had a few volunteers for this ?
Pompey Mick Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 How about if we had a weekend weather thread where members could ask for weather reports on the forum, lib site weather and line of flight .I am sure all members would co-operate as it would only come into force when the weather was poor and we would be sitting around waiting for lib news. As all messages are timed it would give an accurate picture of weather conditions around the country.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 T-T AND POMPEY MICK ,HAVING SOME FANCIERS UP AND DOWN THECOUNTRY WOULD BEGREAT AS SOMETIMES IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW JUST WHAT THE WEATHER IS LIKE WHERE OUR BIRDS ARE RELEASED AND ON THERE LINE OF FLIGHT AS ON RACEDAYS THERE SEEMS TO BE CONFLICTING ACCOUNTS OF WHAT THE WEATHER REALLY IS LIKE ON THE DAY OF RELEASE. SOMETIMES WE HAVE HAD REALLY BAD RACES WHEN THE BIRDS SHOULD NEVER BEEN RELEASED AND THE CONVOYER HAS SAID THE WEATHER HAS BEEN OKAY, SO ANYTHING ON THIS LINE OF KEEPING US INFORMED OF THE CONDITIONS I AM UP FOR.
Chris Little Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Clockman - Have no worries , my feds first race is a massive 38 miles to our lofts ;D ;D
Guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Weather conditions can change dramatically within a few miles. We drove about 15 miles west from East Calder to Falkirk via Bathgate around two years ago. Started off in light rain, was torrential rain within 5 miles (Bathgate) and looked like being same all way to Falkirk - few miles further on suddenly and dramatically out of the storm - into clear skies, brilliant sunshine, roads etc all perfectly dry (had never been raining here) for the last 5 or so miles to Falkirk. Had we been waiting on birds at home end, would have thought weather was perfect, not knowing that there was a rain storm a few miles down the road. As well as weather spotting, a bit of bird spotting would be good too. If someone could tell us they saw 'the birds' going over - preferably heading in the right direction ;D
sj irving jnr Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 we start with west cumbria at appelton 119miles then with the solway the following week at shap 40miles
