sapper756 Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 H5N1 HAS JUST BEEN CONFIRMED IN THE SWAN FOUND HERE IN FIFE.
sapper756 Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 WITH REGARDS TO MY LAST POST SAYING H5N1 HAD BEEN CONFIRMED, WELL ACCORDING TO TELETEXT THIS IS NOT THE CASE, AS THEY ARE STILL AWAITING THE RESULTS. SORRY FOR ANY WRONG INFO! BUT I DID HEAR IT ON A NEWS REPORT. MAYBE I SHOULD STICK TO ONE CHANEL AND STOP JUMPING CHANELS AWAITING NEWS.
Guest valiant Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 NO YOUR NOT WRONG HAS BEEN CONFIRMED H5N1 IN THE SWAN ON MORE THAN ONE CHANNEL.
Guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I am so very sorry it's hit the UK, thinking of you all today
mealybar Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I've just posted information received from Peter Bryant, its under news. http://www.pigeonbasics.com/news
Guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 The real shitty thing about this is the 'crisis' hit at least a week ago. This bird is 'local', not a migrant, has therefore been exposed to an unidentified infected source, and has also been partly eaten. It was also found on the east coast. Whatever infected it is still 'out there' and whatever ate it is now incubating the virus. We now have unconfirmed reports of more dead swans in Glasgow - on the west coast. Agree with previous posts ... keep the birds confined to their lofts. Safe and shows common sense & respect for others.
Guest valiant Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 BRUNO DO YOU THINK WE WILL GET TO RACE OLD BIRDS.
Guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 CNN have just confirmed that the dead Swan had the H51N virus
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 DEFRA PUT OUT A PRESS RELEASE AT 2.30 PM SAYING THAT THE VIRUS FOUND IN THE SWAN HAD NOT BEEN CONFIRMED YET AS HAVING THE HN51 STRAIN AND THEY WERE CARRYING OUT FURTHER TESTS.
mealybar Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 The 2:30pm given by Peter Bryant was I think information from last night. I think there is a press conference at 4pm in Edinburgh.
Guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Mealybar, do you think it will effect the UNC racing this weekend, if its the deadly strain?
celtic Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 If it is , do you think we will get ANY racing at all this year ?
johnny11 Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Celtic At present as it in scotland it should not affect us in England. Do not think you will get racing out of scotland and personally would not fancy your chances of racing into Scotland. If it is found in England or wales feel it will spell the end of racing for this year. John
Guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 It would be just my luck, Ive spent a fortune lately getting the loft right etc and my birds have never looked so well and are exercising spot on, so I just hope I can get a few races in to them B4 it does hit England.
cheq pied Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 acording to the conferance in edinburgh the licence for gatherings in fife is withdrawn
mealybar Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Just been said on the press conference that there is a veterinary zone, m90 eastwards from the forth road bridge to perth, the a90 southward from perth to dundee and the a92 eastwards dundee to stonehaven. I dont know what exactly they mean by a veterinary zone but said that all bird gatherings in that area will be stopped, and birds should be kept indoors within that area. No doubt better details will come in the actual written press release. Sbelbin, it has been confirmed the deadly strain H5N1. I dont want to second guess what might or might not happen, but I dont think UNC racing will be effected this weekend, >unless< either DEFRA come out a state otherwise, or the NEHU or UNC decide themselves to postpone or cancel this weekend, which under the circumstances may be an option to consider. After all it wont hurt if they start racing a week later once more is known, even if its at the 2nd racepoint - only 80-100 miles.
andrew Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 A swan found dead in Scotland has tested positive for the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu. Ponds closed All parks in Glasgow were temporarily closed on Thursday morning after the find by park rangers. A number of dead swans discovered by a river in County Antrim are being examined by government vets. The government advises that anyone who finds one or more dead swans, ducks or geese, more than three dead birds of the same species or more than five dead birds of different species, in the same place, should contact the Defra helpline on 08459 33 55 77.
Guest Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Cheers Mealybar, Ive just heard on Radio1 that its has been confirmed. It would suit me if they did put racing back a week, as I thought we were racing too early. Anyway Ill stop thinking of myself and start thinking of the poor fanciers in the already affected area, and just hope it passes without any major disruption or fatalities!!!
mealybar Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Just found this on the Swans found in Glasgow: Elsewhere, Glasgow City Council has confirmed that two dead swans found in Richmond Park have been sent for tests. All parks in Glasgow were temporarily closed on Thursday morning after the find by park rangers. A post-mortem examination carried out at the Scottish Agricultural College near Ayr established that the cause of death in one swan was a respiratory infection and the other had severe bleeding in the stomach. The city parks have since re-opened but all areas adjacent to ponds have remained closed. Source: BBC
mark Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 put back racing a week it might be alot longer than that if we race at all.
mealybar Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 A Map of the 'Wild Bird Risk Area': http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/Doc/915/0026441.pdf A Wild Bird Risk Area has been declared which stretches from near Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire down to the Forth Road Bridge. In this area all poultry should be housed, and if this is not possible poultry should be separated from contact with wild birds. Mike Lycett Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 I'd only be concerned if it was in my immediate vicinity to be honest. Then you might get a bit of what is perceived as "over reaction". Apart from that, I think we'll be fine.. All the official word is that we're ok
Guest fergie Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 the a85 runs thru dundee half the members are in the zone, i'm only 20 feet in the zone, just got my new loft up with help from son in law clocky,
Mike Lycett Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 that's all we can go on at the moment tomo
