Mike Lycett Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 We have a meeting with DEFRA tomorrow to allow us to race from France. No problems at all on the European side - just the UK
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 DEFRA ALLREADY TOLD PETER BRYANT LAST WEEK THAT ALLTHOUGH THINGS WERE IMPROVING ON THE CONTINENT IT WOULD MAKE NO DIFFERENCE TO THE CURRENT LEGISLATION HERE AND NO BIRDS WOULD BE RACING IN OR OUT OF BRITAIN FOR THE FORSEABLE FUTURE AND IN THE CURRENT SITUATION I THINK WE SHOULD BE HAPPY THAT WE WILL GET INLAND RACING BUT IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THOSE IN MID UK WILL NOT GET THE LONGEST RACES BUT ANY IS BETTER THAN NONE AT ALL.
DRIES Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 WHAT P BRYANT SAID ON 11TH OLD NEWS I'M TALKING ABOUT 13TH APRIL , WHAT THE RPRA PUT ON THERE WEB SITE IS OUT OF DATE BEFORE IT'S POSTED. ALSO JUST A POINT OF REFERANCE , I WORK IN WHITEHALL SW1 THATS WHY I CAN'T SAY TO MUCH

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 ROSE I DIDN'T MEAN WE SHOULD SETTLE FOR INLAND RACING AVERY BODY WANTS CHANNEL RACING BUT FOR NOW I WILL BE HAPPY WITH ANY RACING FOR JUST A SHORT TIME AGO IT LOOKED AS IF WE WOULD HAVE NO RACING AT ALL, I AM OUR CLUB SECRETARY AND IN OUR CLUB WE HAVE ONE OF OUR REGION DELEGATES AND HE IS GETTING FED UP WITH ME PHONING HIM ALL THE TIME TO TRY AND GET HIM TO KEEP PUSHING FOR CHANNEL RACING AT THE NEXT MEETING WHICH IS ON 19/04 [WED] I AM DEFINATELY NOT SITTING BACK AND BEING HAPPY WITH WHAT WEVE GOT.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 DRIES ---THE ONLY PLACE THAT YOU CAN BE WORKING AND KNOWING SOMETHING FOR DEFINATE HAS TO BE WITH DEFRA BECAUSE IT WILL BE THEM THAT WILL DECIDE WHEN AND IF WE RACE ACROSS THE CHANNEL NOBODY ELSE!
Mike Lycett Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 There's a meeting tomorrow & my money is on it being lifted Rose

RT HON MARGERET BECKETT MP SECRETARY OF STATE HAS FINAL SAY, DEFRA ONLY ADVISE GOV
DRIES Posted April 17, 2006 Author Report Posted April 17, 2006 RT HON MARGERET BECKETT MP SECRETARY OF STATE HAS FINAL SAY, DEFRA VETS ONLY ADVISE GOV SHOULD BE DEFRA VETS, SORRY DEFRA IS A GOV DEPT
Pompey Mick Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 In these days of risk assessment or should I say' No risk 'assessment it would be inconceivable that the the Rt Hon Margeret Beckett MP, Secretary of State would over-rule any DEFRA risk Assessment unless it was in the Nation's interest. And I am afraid Pigeon Racing is not very high in her list of priorities. What we need is to promote our own Risk Assessment and present it to DEFRA and argue our case at veterinary level.

And I am afraid Pigeon Racing is not very high in her list of priorities. What we need is to promote our own Risk Assessment and present it to DEFRA and argue our case at veterinary level. I think you hit the nail square on the head, Mick. Pointed out to PB in my email that the risk assessments put up by DEFRA aren't properly balanced... they don't take account of all relevant information. The last one on pigeons for example, trawled the world for the reports (including WHO and OIE) of the ones and twos found dead here and there, and itemised them in their risk assessment. The 'scientific' group conveniently missed the WHO and OIE reports from China where authorities went looking for the source of human infections & deaths in an area where there had been no poultry infections: TESTED 118,967 PIGEONS AND ALL CLEAR. The last one on pigeons also agreed THAT THE ONE OR TWO PIGEONS THAT BECAME INFECTED DIED WITHOUT PASSING THE INFECTION ON. THEY ARE THEREFORE NOT INVOLVED IN THE SPREAD OF THE DISEASE... which basically backs up what Dr David Swayne said in the vets email way back in November 2005.. Basically need to take account of all the information before you can say what the risk is. When you add all of the above to the animal husbandry of pigeons housing and racing conditions (from the FCI risk assessment + DEFRA race license conditions) on the Likert Scale (1 to 5) on which risk assessment is based, I'd say it would be less than 1 = negligible, no risk at all. I have also been confident all along that outwith Zones, racing would take place, and over the channel too. Have had everything crossed for months.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 DRIES ---- ARE YOU MARGARET BECKET ?
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 There's a meeting tomorrow & my money is on it being lifted Rose AND MY £5 SAYS IT WONT BE LIFTED TOMORROW MIKE. [ JUST SEND YOUR £5 TO ANY CHARITY YOU WANT ]
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 GOOD POINT POMPEY NOBODY IS REALLY GOING TO OVERRULE THE DEFRA VETS WHEN IT COMES TO THE CRUNCH.AND AS WE HAVE ALLREADY SEEN HOW LONG THEY TAKE TO RELAX RULES WHEN THEY THINK THERE IS EVEN A SLIGHTEST RISK.THE UK RACING PIGEON UNIONS SHOULD HAVE THERE OWN VETS WHO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT PIGEONS FIGHTING FOR US .THEY GET PLENTY MONEY FROM US.
Mike Lycett Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 I genuinely think we'll race from France this season - might not be lifted tomorrow, but it'll happen I'm sure
peterpau Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Why would you want to over-rule the Defra vets. I've mailed Defra and asked why they think it's a good idea, that we can race from Perth in June, but not from the continent. Mike may well be right, but then so may Rose. I could see restrictions lifted, but probably no permits issued till June. EU orriginaly planned to meet in June, and I still think first week of June, will be when we get the green light. I did say to Defra, that if we are a small risk then why take a risk at all. Let us go south
rockinrick Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 if we end up raceing from france then i wish all good luck in racing this year as i wont be sending until they say its clear to fly across water , cheers rockinrick
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 DRIES ---WOULD YOU LIKE TO PUT UP A POST WITH A CLOSER DATE AS TO WHEN WE WOULD BE RACING FROM FRANCE OR EVEN A CLOSER DATE AS TO WHEN WE WILL OFFICIALLY BE TOLD. I PERSONALLYWOULD ONLY BE TOO PLEASED TO LET FANCIERS KNOW IF I KNEW SOMETHING DEFINATE.SAYING WE WILL KNOW SOMETHING AFTER 1ST MAY IS VAGUE IT COULD MEAN SEPTEMBER IT COULD MEAN NEXT YEAR.I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM ANYBODY WELL CONNECTED BUT I WOULD STILL BE RIGHT IF I SAID WE WOULD HEAR SOMETHING AFTER FIRST MAY.I WONT REALLY BE TAKING A LOT OF NOTICE AS TO WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO SPECULATE ON WHAT I WILL HEDE IS DEFINATE FACTS FROM EITHER DEFRA OR THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE.
