WHAT WOULD BE THE LATEST DAY OF THE WEEK ,BEFORE A RACE  ON SATURDAY , WOULD YOU LET YOUR BIRDS HAVE A BATH.

I only let them bath on sundays (day after race) I think it helps them to relax after the race and I always use warm water with bath salts. ;)

Sunday, with warm water and Malt Vinegar in the water, and they get locked in the aviary till tea time.

Agree that usual bath day is Sunday, but if my birds wanted a bath after that, they'd get one.

Reminds me of the joke about the vicar who was asked if he believed in sex before marraige. "Only if it doesn't delay the ceremony" was his reply.

;D So provided the birds would be dried off well before race-marking time, ;D  anytime is a good time ...

Hiya Sbelbin.

Interesting post re bathing with malt vinegar - just interested to know why malt vinegar, does it have any properties that benefit the feather quality or is it used to keep the mites and lice away?

Dave - Certainly I can guarantee the latter.  None of our birds ever have lice/mite & we bath in vinegar 52 weeks a year - certainly doesn't harm condition either

DOES THE BOILING WATER FROM THE KETTLE NOT BURN THEM  ????

Diamond Dave, yes as Mike says (its Mike that gave me the tip) it keeps lice etc away from the birds. And I always use water out of the kettle and point my hose pipe at them with warm water, as they love to have the water sprinking on them.

I've always used cold water. Quite wary of using hot water.

Hot water is used to defeather birds ... easily and quickly.

i used to put buckets of hot water out the tap in their bath, before i could get the bucket of cold water in , all the birds were in the bath, i would say the water was" hand hot"[i could put my hand in the water] steam rising like a turkish bath, all in it with there wings lying open in the water and enjoying it, weve got to remember that a pigeons temperature is about 104 compared to ours 98  [ours is 104 when its a bad race ;D ;D], but my gooness i was surprised they went in it,when it was that hot, but they seemed to enjoy it :) :) :)
