Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 WHAT WOULD BE THE LATEST DAY OF THE WEEK ,BEFORE A RACE ON SATURDAY , WOULD YOU LET YOUR BIRDS HAVE A BATH.
Guest jason Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 I only let them bath on sundays (day after race) I think it helps them to relax after the race and I always use warm water with bath salts.
Guest Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Sunday, with warm water and Malt Vinegar in the water, and they get locked in the aviary till tea time.
Guest Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Agree that usual bath day is Sunday, but if my birds wanted a bath after that, they'd get one. Reminds me of the joke about the vicar who was asked if he believed in sex before marraige. "Only if it doesn't delay the ceremony" was his reply. ;D So provided the birds would be dried off well before race-marking time, ;D anytime is a good time ...

Diamond dave Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 Hiya Sbelbin. Interesting post re bathing with malt vinegar - just interested to know why malt vinegar, does it have any properties that benefit the feather quality or is it used to keep the mites and lice away?

Mike Lycett Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Hiya Sbelbin. Interesting post re bathing with malt vinegar - just interested to know why malt vinegar, does it have any properties that benefit the feather quality or is it used to keep the mites and lice away? Dave - Certainly I can guarantee the latter. None of our birds ever have lice/mite & we bath in vinegar 52 weeks a year - certainly doesn't harm condition either
Guest slugmonkey Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I give bath on basketing day and leave the pan in all day I try to watch to see who bathes if a bird dosent bathe I dont send them I can also tell how tough a race they had by looking at condition of feet on race day upon arrival
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 OUR PREFERENCE IS BOILING WATER STRAIGHT FROM THE KETTLE , THE DOO'S LOVE IT MY DAD FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS BY ACCIDENT IN THE WINTER WHEN FILLING THE BATH,HE PUT HOT WATER IN ,WENT TO GET SOME COLD AND WHEN HE WENT BACK TO THE BATH ALL THE DOO'S WERE IN IT TRY IT DOES THE BOILING WATER FROM THE KETTLE NOT BURN THEM ????
Guest Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Diamond Dave, yes as Mike says (its Mike that gave me the tip) it keeps lice etc away from the birds. And I always use water out of the kettle and point my hose pipe at them with warm water, as they love to have the water sprinking on them.
Guest Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I've always used cold water. Quite wary of using hot water. Hot water is used to defeather birds ... easily and quickly.
Guest Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 NOTE: Posts on baths on "BASKETING DAY" thread, same board.
pigeonchested Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 lukewarm water with some pottasium permagnate crystals one sunday and bicarbonate of soda the next.
jimmy white Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 i used to put buckets of hot water out the tap in their bath, before i could get the bucket of cold water in , all the birds were in the bath, i would say the water was" hand hot"[i could put my hand in the water] steam rising like a turkish bath, all in it with there wings lying open in the water and enjoying it, weve got to remember that a pigeons temperature is about 104 compared to ours 98 [ours is 104 when its a bad race ;D ;D], but my gooness i was surprised they went in it,when it was that hot, but they seemed to enjoy it :)
Guest speckled Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Well ya all be given ya birds a spa bath next lol. ;D ;D ;D with load of bubbles,. ;D ;D Lol pigeonchested is pottasuim permagnate that purple crystalls thay ya put in the bath that makes it turn red,? :-/ :-/ dont that Oxergante the water for fish?????.
