andy Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 JOHN, JUST THOUGHT I WOULD THROW IN MY TUPPENCE WORTH ON YOUR POST OF 300 MILE PIGEONS. I BELIEVE ITS BETTER TO JUDGE TIME ON THE WING RATHER THAN DISTANCE FLOWN. EG 350 MILE AT 50MPH A 7 HOUR RACE, IDEAL FOR MY SVR, BUT 350 MILES AT 38 MPH IS TOUCHING 9 HOURS, WHERE MY BUSSCHAERTS WOULD COME INTO THEIR OWN & THE SVR MAY STRUGGLE A BIT, SO ITS HORSES FOR COURSES, THESE ARE MY VIEWS FOR MY OWN BIRDS ONLY. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CHOICE.............ANDY M..
Chris Little Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 A squad of Young Copper's ..... what a mouthwatering thought : :
jimmy white Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 have to agree with andy,, time on the wing,, i think it was massareli. that started this" craze" off, we had sprinters, sprinters to middle ,, middle., middle to long, long, and extreme long, then we talk about MILES, instead of time on the wing, which is more to the point , you can have a long time on the wing in a shorter race, and shorter time on the wing in a longer race yes i agree andy,,,time on the wing that counts ,,not miles.
frank-123 Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 i dont understand strains of pigeons surely there are no strains take for instance jannssens what strain were they before jannssen had them? svr did he get them fom someone else when starting up are they all not heinz 57 strain can you keep a strain pure other than heinz 57 ?
jimmy white Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 good question bart , think ill put a new post up ..".what is a strain" might get some interesting answers,,cheers bart
John Halliday Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 i was interested to know about fanciers birds/strains that they have had success with flying up to 330 miles. i feel that my small amount of birds might need a cross put into them because they struggle after 220 miles.
