yellow hen Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 most clubs have @ least one, i know,but...we have a particular annoying one.a farther & son partnership both fit & well with transport.since they joined the club 2 seasons ago. they have attended no meetings either in or out of season, never turned up for any duties such as basket cleaning ect.they send their birds with a friend on friday night then someone brings the clock in on saturday nights. in fact in 2 years they have been to the clubhouse on only 2 occasions [presentation nights] .they fly fairly well, both in our club and their other club. they don't dominate,so it's not a case of "sour grapes".I'ts damn annoying, what can be done?
square_peg Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 DONT KNOW ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE BUT UP HERE (SCOTLAND) WE CANNOT ENFORCE BASKET ROTA, ETC,I KNOW THINGS ARE DIFFERENT IN ENGLAND,SO,CANT YOU HAVE SOME KIND OF RULE THAT IF YOU ENTER 50 DOO'S YOU HAVE TO BASKET 50 DOO'S IF YOU ENTER 10 YOU BASKET 10,THAT SORT OF THING. MY OWN THOUGHTS ARE IF I AM IN A CLUB ,I WORK FOR THAT CLUB,I GO TO MY CLUB FOR THE BANTER ETC,WE HAVE SAME KINDA PROBLEMS UP HERE BUT ITS WITH MEMBERS FLYING IN 2 CLUBS ETC

GREENGRASS Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 yellow hen i am afraid so long as they pay their fees and dont break any rules there is nothing you can do. In most clubs there are poeple who talk a good club and people who make a good club. the hard part is striking a balance between the two. what would these members do if nobody appeared to mark their birds, as in any club each member should mark each others birds to ensure the work load is spread out, but not always. lets hope they realise there is more to being a club member than turning up.
PIGEON_MAN Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 WHY NOT TRY THE IDEA OF A BASKET ROTA IF ALL THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE CLUB ARE IN FAVOUR THIS WOULD BE A CLUB RULING AND MAY NOT BE AFFECTED BY RPRA RULES,SOME YEARS AGO WE DID THIS IN OUR CLUB WITH A £5.00 FINE FOR ANYONE THAT DIDN,T DO THERE TURN.WE HAD A PUBLICAN AS A MEMBER AT THAT TIME WHO OBVIOUSLEY FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO DO HIS TURN SO HE WOULD PAY THE £5.00 WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
Guest Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 In our club we have a basket rota, where 3 members are named each week to change the shavings etc and wait for the wagon to arrive, and we get fined a fiver if we dont do it. I get a little bit of ribbing on a friday, as I finish work at five and have to go home to get my birds ready, so by the time I get to the club its normally 6ish, and Im normally the last to get my birds in, and rarely get a chance to help out with the ringing. Its not that Im too lazy to do it, I just dont have enough time.
speedbird Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 good points raised like someone said you cant make them turn up if thre are no rules also as they fly in another club they may have rules in place hence they go there also with a father & son partnership it can be hard to be in 2 places at once. think in every club you have people who do more than others but thats pigeon racing for you!! we use to have about 6/8 markers who do the marking every week & they get the marking money at end of seaon this worked realy well now with being a club geting more pompetativewe all muck in & some members like to put other peoples birds in to see how they handle ect
PIGEON_MAN Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 we use to have about 6/8 markers who do the marking every week & they get the marking money at end of seaon SPEEDBIRD,DO YOU MEAN THESE WERE OUTSIDE PEOPLE WHO USED TO DO THE MARKING OR CLUB MEMBERS,IF IT WAS CLUB MEMBERS THAT WERE GETTING PAYED TO MARK THE BIRDS I WOULD SAY THAT IT WAS VERY BAD ON THEIR PART TO EXPECT TO BE PAYED.
speedbird Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 we payed markers 35p per loft per week they were guys who are retiered therefore more time to arrange baskets & stuff they were members yes
Bad Trapper Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 I think these members exist in a few clubs, we have a couple mainly because they are double or trebled clubbed. They only drop the birds off then staight onto the next one, leaving the rest of us to do the crates and clocks and load the transporter when it arrives
carl Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 WHY NOT TRY THE IDEA OF A BASKET ROTA IF ALL THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE CLUB ARE IN FAVOUR THIS WOULD BE A CLUB RULING AND MAY NOT BE AFFECTED BY RPRA RULES,SOME YEARS AGO WE DID THIS IN OUR CLUB WITH A £5.00 FINE FOR ANYONE THAT DIDN,T DO THERE TURN.WE HAD A PUBLICAN AS A MEMBER AT THAT TIME WHO OBVIOUSLEY FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO DO HIS TURN SO HE WOULD PAY THE £5.00 WITH NO PROBLEM AT ALL. thats what happens in our club, theres a rota for basket night and there must be 4 members present every friday for basket night rotated on a weekly basis, any member not attending has to pay 10 pound to the member that fills his slot,if you cant make it for some reason then we just swap with another member if they are willing. i always say, this is a sport and in sport we have TEAM WORK everyone should do there bit especialy new members
Tony C Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 It’s damn annoying, what can be done? Yellow hen we talk of motivating pigeons, sometimes we need motivating too. You can turn this negative experience into one that you can use to motivate yourself. Make it your aim to beat this partnership week in week out. When you have got little things to do and there’s no rush it’s quite easy to put it of till tomorrow, don’t! Think how much you want to beat this partnership and do it NOW. Same for the jobs that you think to yourself ‘I’ll do that in 5 minutes’ do them NOW. When success comes your way you can partly put it down to doing the little things, things you would have put off but never. You could then thank the stay away partnership for all they have done for you, that’s when you see them . Fine these types for not pulling their weight? Nah, just kick their ar*es every week
yellow hen Posted May 13, 2006 Author Report Posted May 13, 2006 thank's to everone for the advice.to TONY C very uplifting word's, will try to do what you suggest ,and use my frustrtion in a possitive way.
swilcox Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 In our club you have to drink 5 pints of scrumpy cider, talk so much sh** as possible, tell at least 20 lies and mention 15 strain names every friday and saturday or your not allowed to send the following week!!! Basket the birds togeter, and then hit the bar together that is my motto! Stuart Wilcox
