DRIES Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 heard today that if defra allow us back into france w'ell only be allowed to go 350 miles into france, because french maff want the birds to leave france on day of toss, they don't want them stopping over night on french coast.. so tarbes etc don't look good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps also heard that CSCFC have cancelled this weeks race from Hexham due to lack od support !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Rose I heard Mark Gilbert sent 80 birds north last saturday and only saw 18, I hope for him that was wrong.
Guest Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 He must be heart broken, all the Pau birds etc he has takes time to build up team like that.
Guest Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 That's it I am not sending north now, was gonna give it a go but I am not even having any lead in races they are racing there weekly and still losing them.
Guest ben Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Rose, With your contacts have you heard anything about spain?,if we will be able to race from there,we only need one or two 100 mile tosses, then jump straight in to the big ones,350 to short for a race, nearly too long for a training toss.
Guest Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 who lib from fraserburgh yesterday? and how did they get on???
Guest shadow Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Its no surprise there were heavy losses over the weekend going south it never stopped raining all weekend in lincolnshire some of the showers were very heavy
Mike Lycett Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Told ya on another thread - think you can turn birds here there & everywhere then go for it - but there'll be massive losses in doing so
Guest Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 If the west had the weather the east had over the weekend (and now) then I cant believe anyone managed to get a race, as its rained pretty much constantly all weekend here in Teesside. Its been hard enough getting the birds out for exercise, never mind racing.
swilcox Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 We turned a team of 55 pigeons from south to north including are best National and Classic channel pigeons, we have trained them wisely knowing that they were changing direct and joined the local North Road Club so that are pigeon would be going up with experienced and confident pigeons. At the moment i think we have lost 9 out of that 55! Its the weather not the route!!!!! Stuart
richard Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Totally agree Stuart, I started with 15 cocks and have 13 left, dropped 2 last week 1 from the Classic and 1 from the club. Sent 4 to the BBC Ingleton National and got all 4 even with a gale force west wind at the home end. Cheers Richard
DRIES Posted May 22, 2006 Author Report Posted May 22, 2006 next central southern classic from hexham cancelled on cscfc website due to lack of support
richard Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 How can they know there's a lack of support when entries only had to be posted on Saturday? Can it be anything to do with the possibility of getting into France? I hope they send my entry money back ;) Cheers Richard

speedbird Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 lets get back to to topic of france anyone else heard about 350 miles being the max we can race? or is that 350miles in france o
richard Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Catherine Cooper mentioned this rumour on the PIPA forum, she mentioned Saintes being the farthest race point to be allowed, which is 340miles to me. Cheers Richard

Pompey Mick Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 I would like to congratulate the Solent Fed on making a swift decision on Saturday to bring the birds away from Wetherby, eventually to Melton Mowbrey via Clay Cross & Derby to give us a surprisingly good race ,considering the gale force winds ,with near 100% returns. As for blaming high losses purely on the change of route that is plain ludicrous, the weather we have been experiencing lately would give us problems wherever we race. I've raced North & South since 1963 and I would say we have horrendous South Road losses as well as North Road losses and it's always down to the weather.
DRIES Posted May 22, 2006 Author Report Posted May 22, 2006 saintes race will be longest race we will be able to race from france this season IS A FACT CENTRAL SOUTHERN CLASSIC WERE TOLD !!!!!!!, IF DEFRA LET US BACK IN NOT CUT AND DRIED BY A LONG WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Going by the UNC website, we will be racing from france over the next few weeks.
tony99 Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 sounds like it hope so just have to wait and see

OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS I'VE ASKED, ON VARIOUS POSTSHOW DOES A PIGEON KNOW IF ITS FLYING NORTH OR SOUTH THIS IS THE FIRST POST THAT'S GIVEN ANY TYPE OF ANSWER
Guest Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Being one of the first drops in the UNC, you would have thought in Teesside we would get some of the first birds. But they get dragged so far north, I think my birds are as used to flying from the north as they are south, and some races I dont see a single bird coming from the south :-/. Conclusion, pigeons are programmed to find home, so I cant see why direction would make a difference.
Chris Little Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Any news yet..... the suspense is killing me ;) ;)
