Peckedhen Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Yesterday I reported the ring number of a pigeon I found to Newmains Club. I was given another number to ring - I think the club secretary. He was not available but, his daughter took the message and told me he would return my call when he got home. I had still not heard by mid day today so I rang again. I spoke to, what I presume was his wife, she was extremely rude, telling me that her husband was far too busy at work to be ringing about pigeons, that he wasn't even racing and she had no idea if or when he would ring me! I told her I was not a pigeon racer and asked what I should do with the bird, she replied that I could do what I wanted with it, it was nothing to do with her!! I was tempted to release the bird but, a fancier friend has advised me that it wont make it home yet and I need to keep it a few more days. So, three phone calls and I'm still no nearer finding the owner! Little wonder the sport gets a bad name and few birds get reported. If this guy doesn't have time to do the job he shouldn't be doing it! I just hope that this bird isn't someone's favourite! > >
square_peg Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 YEAH THIS IS ALL WRONG BUT AT THE SAME TIME THIS POOR GUY HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG APART FROM GO TO WORK. SHU AND RPRA GIVE YOU 3 DAYS TO MAKE CONTACT ,HOPEFULLY HE HAS CONTACTED THE OWNER AND HE/SHE WILL GET IN TOUCH. WHEN JOE PUBLIC REPORT DOO'S THEY WANT IT DELT WITH ASAP.WE AS FANCIERS SHOULD REMEMBER THIS ,FOR ALL THE GOOD THAT IS DONE ,1 BAD EGG UNDOES IT ALL
PIGEON_MAN Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 AS SECRETARY OF OUR CLUB I AGREE PECKED HEN IT IS A DISGRACE THE WAY YOU WERE TREATED,I ALLWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE OWNER OF A BIRD THAT IS REPORTED TO ME GETS TO KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHERE IT IS EVEN IF I HAVE TO DRIVE TO THEIR HOUSE AS 1 OR 2 ARE NOT ON THE PHONE,I WOULD BE INCLINED TO TRY THE SECRETARY ONCE MORE,MIGHT BE BETTER AT NIGHT WHEN HE IS HOME FROM WORK.YOU COULD HOWEVER REPORT IT STRAIGHT TO THE UNION AND THEN HOPEFULLY YOU WOULD GET A BETTER RESPONCE.I BELIEVE THERE ARE MEMBERS OF THE NEWMAINS CLUB WHO ARE ON THE FORUM PERHAPS THEY CAN HELP.
jimmy white Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 had the same problem p.h. reported 3 birds one owner couldnt have been more nicer and appreciative, no word for other two,,,,just shows you how people are differant however they were liberated at the place they belonged to , thanks to j, lamb

THE FIFER Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 WHATS THE RING NUMBER OF THE BIRD, PUT IT ON THE FORUM AND WE WILL GET IT DELT WITH, SORRY FOR UR MISSFORTUNE BUT THERE IS SOME LIKE THIS IN THE FANCY BUT THERE ARE MORE GOOD FANCIERS
Guest Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 I quite agree Peckedhen, total disgrace. I would have no hesitation in reporting the bird to the Union, pet beef of mine, makes me so sick when I hear about pigeons being treated like disposable razors. It's worse in the States, there are no rules regarding collection of strays and the bad attitude of the fanciers has given PETA a lot to throw out against us. some fanciers will not even report a stray bird, they just kill it when it comesinto their lofts, or we have the barstewards who take a great delight in cutting off the AU rings before they toss the bird out. As for the attitude of the Sec.s wife that again is disgraceful, shouldn't be the sec if he can't get a person to answer the phone in a civil manner when he's not at home.
Peckedhen Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Thanks everyone. The Fifer, I've put the ring number on Lost Birds but it's SU 05 L 17208. Linda, I have thought about reporting it but, it was not the club secretary but his wife who I spoke to.....he needs to get her better trained I'll ring the SHU today and hope that they contact the owner.
THE FIFER Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 DOES NOT MATTER WHO ANSWERS THE PHONE IF IT'S AN OFFICIAL OF AN ORGANISATIONS NUMBER U SHOULD GET PROPERLY SPOKEN TOO, AND SOME INFO.
Peckedhen Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 The owner contacted and is arranging for Amtrak to collect the bird.
peterpau Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Glad you got a happy ending Pecked. Some of us do our best. Even then we make mistakes sometimes.
