T_T Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 WHAT A LOAD OF C--P !!!!!! Yesterday arranged for a pick up of two youngsters and thrashed home hard that I needed boxes. Today, I again contacted with the same enthusiasm about wanting boxes. Amtrak arrive to collect. NO BOXES!!!! Where do we go. I again phoned them only to be told that they had spoken to my wife ( they hadn't ) saying that the youngsters would be picked up tomorrow ( Friday ) because they realised whilst the driver was in transit that he had no boxes. Picking up Friday would increase the cost of delivery twofold, being made on Sat. He then suggested BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY!!! Am I living in the real world ? I told him Tuesday would be the earliest for pick up, making the youngsters another week older. The driver on seeing my anger found an old Amtrak box under his seat so we managed to get them sent in comfort. Ever had one of those days.
zetlandlad999 Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 Half the problem is the guys on the vans, they havnt a clue
Guest Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 just decided in the last week to restart after giving up the birds due to my wifes stroke at the end of last year. a friend in wales gave me the chance of ten young birds to give me a n interest this year in a few races. young birds picked up in wales by Amtraks swansea depot yesterday morning(monday) waited in all day until 3-00pm.phoned Kirkaldy depot to see what had happened to them.they said they had not received any pigeons today, but should have been due to receive 15 individual orders, not of which had arrived. due to my concern for the birds welfare i made various calls to Swansea,Kirkaldy & Aldridge/Birmingham and eventually after about 9 telephone calls that the birds would be staying in Birmingham overnight & that they would be fed & watered(my a--e!!) & i would receive them sometime tomorrow (wednesday) NOT GOOD ENOUGH & WHY SHOULD I PAY FULL MONEY FOR A SERVICE THEY DIDN"T TOTALLY PROVIDE(IE,DELIVERY OF LIVESTOCK WITHIN 23 HOURS) this isn"t the first time this has happened to me with Amtrak, the last time when i eventually got the birds 2 were dead in their boxes!!!

jimmy white Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 must admit ive only had a few probs with amtrack, but really a "few "is not good enough. going back to billymacs post, i might be wrong but when you sign the paper, your signing a contract ,ie 24 hour delivery, if they break that contract they should be in trouble, i remember with interlink, my birds were sent to the wrong depot, but after a few phone calls from the SENDER, they run my 2 birds by taxi, from dundee to edinburgh
THE FIFER Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 GOT BIRDS PICKED UP TODAY,I HAD THEM IN BOXES,AS I DOO, THE DRIVER BROUGHT BOXES,I TOLD HIM I HAD THE BIRDS READY IN BOXES BUT TO LEAVE THE ONES HE BROUGHT, WENT OUT TO GET THEM THEY WERE GONE, HE MUST HAVE MISS-UNDERSTOOD ME LOL. ANYWAY THE BIRDS ARE ON THEIR WAY,
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 THERE IS A DELIVERY SERVICE THAT COVERS SCOTLAND , ONLY FAR CHEAPER THAN AMTRAK AND A GREAT SERVICE CALLED SPDS.USED THEM A FEW TIMES ,FIRST CLASS.
Guest shadow Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 I sent two young birds to losalt and put them in an aluminium 3 bird show carrying box when he received them some 26 hrs later they were in cardboard boxes on checking with Amtrak I was told that the birds had to travel in card board boxes they were safer and it was company policy. asked them to return the basket and got the reply but you are packing in with the birds why do you want it back. Told them it should have gone with the birds. Finally got it back yesterday left on my doorstep even though we were not out the driver did not have the decency to knock
jimmy white Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 really terrible that shadow, no way to run a bussiness, my birds arrived safely this morning,,, after all that hassle, and wating in.
westy Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 evrey time i have aranged amtrack they would turn up without boxes when i had birds collected i had to give them a box wast of time i say but how else are the pigeons going to get transported.
ribble Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 the logistics which go into running a company like amtrak are vast.you are always going to get hiccups.ive had birds sent to the wrong address and they have paid a courier to deliver to me about 100mile round trip.the birds where with me for 1pm.thats excellent sevice in my book, cant fault them.but may i add i dont use them often.
THE FIFER Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 YES BUT SPDS ONLY DELIVER IN SCOTLAND, THE BIRDS I HAD PICKED UP BY AMTRAK YESTERDAY FOR YOUNG SPEIGHT ARRIVED OK TODAY AS I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY CRAIG.
mealybar Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Could do with someone setting up for Northern England and connect SPDS and PHANTOM FLYER up, have the whole country covered then.
Guest shadow Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 I may be way behine the times, but can you still not ship pigeons by British Rail Red star There is only amtrak who carry pigeons nationwide at a reasonable there are several small courier services that I have contacted but their carriage rates our very expensive i was quoted £50 per bird by one of them. The royal mail wont do any more.
Guest shadow Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Their was a firm set up some time ago where you paid a yearly fee and you could have your birds picked up as many times as you needed without further charge I used them but they disbanded did not last very long
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 PHONED AMTRAK YESTERDAY AFTERNOON TO PICK UP A STRAY ,THEY CAME THIS MORNING AND PICKED THE BIRD UP .I HAD ALLREADY BOXED THE BIRD {IT LOST } SO THE DRIVER ASKED IF I WANTED A BOX TO REPLACE MINE AND WHEN I SAID YES HE GAVE ME A HANDFUL OF SINGLE BIRD BOXES AND A COUPLE OF SIX BIRD BOXES.
