seagull Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 not taking away what jim biss did mike exceptional flyer but did race from 2 differnt locations and send a hell of a lot of pigeons seagull
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Not taking his Biss/Waite into consideration. No need. Yes, he sent a lot - that - and the fact he wasn't short of a few bob are the only things people could throw at him. The man was a born pigeon man - a stockman of the highest order. You canb't "buy" that. Again - his performances are unparalleled irrespective what people say. The killer is though - Look how many National winners he's produced for other people. LOADS!!! Now, THAT'S class !!!
seagull Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 yes couldnt aggree more but he was long distance he wasnt a allround pigeon fancier when did you ever hear him winning sprint races every 1 got there own opinion on whos the best fancier
Guest Silverwings Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 interesting views ? who could forget Jock Reid ,Eric Cannon and what about the King Jack Adams ?
Guest ben Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Mike, I`m not so sure he always got themat 600 miles,in fact i`m pretty sure he did`nt,starting with the Northroad,he and his birds could`nt cut it at the hardest of them all LERWICK,even thou he had brilliant results at the more shorter racepoints. And as for Southroad,as we all know,Palomas in the Barcelona club will and always has been more severe than the Internationals, simply because the british birds, especially were mr biss operated, were helped by the massive drag of the north-east .euro birds. Seems very strange why mr biss, with every advantage you can think of,seemed to forgo palomas as the years rolled.on,what could have been the thinking behind this, even the might of biss`s empire could`nt take massive destructive losses at that graveyard?will we ever know?,perhaps the backward step of trying to win at PAU NFC useing the Hampshire setup with with mr Waite throws a bit of light on Jim`s thinking? looking from where i`m standing,it could be perceived that jim, gave up on his quest of euro glory, settling for british competition onlyin the NFC,andBICC,still top class racing, butcertainly way way short of what Mr biss set out to acheive. And no way can i agree he was a great stockman.
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Ben.. We've been through all this before I'm sure on PIPA. He did indeed operate very successfully at shorter race points before attacking the longer distance. As for Palamos, I'm afraid that 99% of the UK fanciers aren't interested in it & don't really hold it in any credance
Guest Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 what about doc white had some great results in snfc ------1946 LOL ;D ;D ;D
Chris Little Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Someone mentioned earlier that Eddie Newcombe won the title of British Fancier of the Year 5 times , a truly remarkable feat Who organised such an award , is it still organised today..... just curious
andy Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Someone mentioned earlier that Eddie Newcombe won the title of British Fancier of the Year 5 times , a truly remarkable feat Who organised such an award , is it still organised today..... just curious CHRIS, ITS NOT AROUND TODAY, STARTED EARLY 70s UP TO 80 OR 81 IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY IT WAS ORGANISED I THINK BY ONE OF THE WEEKLIES, CANT QUITE REMEMBER ALL THE DETAILS, WAS JUST A BOY, YOUNG AND GOOD LOOKING AT THE TIME, NOW IM OLDER AND BETTER LOOKING. LOL.... ANDY MILLER..
Chris Little Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Thanks Andy I was in nappies in the early 70's ;D
swilcox Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 From a personnel point of veiw i would rate Sam and Roly Fears acheivements higher than the great Sam Biss (and i agree he was a great) due soley to the small amount of pigeons kepted and sent!!!! There astonishing ability at distance racing was something Sam Biss reconised as he visited there lofts to collect birds year after year!!!!!! In terms of breeding, Mr & Mrs Nethercott, Eric Fox, David Bacon, Eric Cannon, S V Miles, Mike Young, K Hines, Mr & Mrs Bates, S G BISS, J T Ellis, Brooks Bros have all had outstanding success with the Fear Bros blood and that doesnt include the many good pigeons supplied from S G Biss from Fears blood. Mike who do you think is the best sprinter the UK has ever seen? Ron Williamson, Len Hopton, Beardsmore, Walton, CWLG, Spence Nichols, B Kaid, Darlington??? Just guessing!!!, This one would have to be your call!!!!!!! Stuart P.S Chris, me too and i thought i was the youngest!!!
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 If you base it on performance & performance alone Stu then there aint a debate about it. Ron Williamson is the best in Europe surely.... Think his attention has turned to the channel more now though. Have a massive regard for CWLG though.
Chris Little Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Agree entirley with the Baggie Man , Ronnie is the man Stu - 1972 was the year
CREBAG Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Mike who do you think is the best sprinter the UK has ever seen? Ron Williamson, Len Hopton, Beardsmore, Walton, CWLG, Spence Nichols, B Kaid, Darlington??? Just guessing!!!, This one would have to be your call!!!!!!! Stuart P.S Chris, me too and i thought i was the youngest!!! "CWLGG BEST SPRINTERS IN UK! FACT!!
Mike Lycett Posted June 11, 2006 Report Posted June 11, 2006 Yep - As i said - got a massive regard for CWLG
westburylofts Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Jim Biss for me The man new his pigeons and could get the best out of them. As for his birds only being any good for distance RUBBISH He said in his video they can sprint as well. i have seen a local fancier to me win club and fed with birds bred from children of the champions. Money will not buy you stock sence you are born with it . Also have not seen Geff Kirkland's name mentioned. Ray
Guest Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Ray If you go back to the first page, both chris Little and myself both nominated Geoff Kirkland.
