fifestay Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 We dont feed barley ...one, our Birds wont eat it and two there is nothing in Barley and it might keep the weight of but I dont like using it all
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 We dont feed barley ...one, our Birds wont eat it and two there is nothing in Barley and it might keep the weight of but I dont like using it all I would have to agree with fifestay Nothing but barley is very harsh.
Tony C Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 I found my hens took longer to lay out if fed barley throughout the winter, I now feed them 50/50 breeding/depurative.
Wiley Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 i feed mine 50 moulting mix/50 brown rice or when i can get my hands on it paddy rice
Guest Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 light feed of depurative in morning, then peas, beans and maize mix in the afternoon.
Pompey Mick Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 Hopper feed Tic Beans and use a mixture for trapping. Got some beautiful beans locally £5.00 bag, recleaned & polished. They're as cheap now as they were 20yrs ago, because they're no longer popular.
Guest Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 There is no such thing as a winter in the pigeon sport today, Winter starts on the 21st December and at that time most of the fancy have the birds thinking it is Spring. There is nothing wrong with barley either have you seen the size of the bullocks that are fed on it.
jimmy white Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 plenty protein feed whist moulting , when the last flight is fully grown a lighter diet, and exercise round the loft,,but different feeding for differant racing
Beanz Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 With the mixtures that are available today you can get good food at near enough the same price as you pay for farm foods I know which I would sooner have and it aint the farm stuff.
ribble Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 With the mixtures that are available today you can get good food at near enough the same price as you pay for farm foods I know which I would sooner have and it aint the farm stuff. the mixtures as you call them, where do they get the contents for them from? A.the farm. not all farm feeds are bad and if you are paying the same as mixtures you are paying to much or are buying mixtures of farm food.
stevebelbin Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 75% v-laga best all round 25 % barley once the moult is nearly complete
barlbylofts Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 lol its great isnt it ? to listen to every ones diferent ideas its a great game we in here love it. mark
Peckedhen Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 lol its great isnt it ? to listen to every ones diferent ideas its a great game we in here love it. mark Hmm, great but, very confusing for novices!! I'm trying to use up old feed so have mine on 50% moulting mix, 25% barley and 25%breed and wean. Is this OK for the time being till I've used up?? :-/
barlbylofts Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 yeah be fine if thats what you want to do.if i got any feed left over when its time to change i normaly chuck it and put them on the feed they normaly have at the time of season. mark barlby lofts
barlbylofts Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 ps. or i take to town and feed the street pigeons with it lol
mark Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 there is no hidden law on how to feed if they look ok on it stick with it.
Beanz Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 ribble, at the moment i am feeding good belgian corn for the 50p a bag more than farm corn so why should I use farm corn when i can get food at that price, I am not knocking fanciers who feed farm corn you feed what your pocket can afford at the end of the day but as i said if I can feed branded corn for more or less the same price as farm stuff then thats what I personally will do
ribble Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 hi,i'm not saying you should use farm corn or begium branded corn.i went to a farm the other week the price list is in my old mans car but i'll get it tomorrow and post the prices.it's a lot cheaper than any branded corn i've seen, maybe the price in your area is higher. anyway as long as your birds are having a good moult and your happy thats all that matters.
