Guest Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Agree Tony, shouldn't force the birds to take something they don't like. But I wonder how much they like some of the alternatives - medications? I have not seen any of my birds put off the drinker and that is why I reckon on 1/2 a bulb to 2pts is enough to both do the job and be palatable ... the LAST thing I want is them to stop drinking ... I've seen this before with Multivits. Darren, chose Saturday & Sunday because of the racing. I reckon the time of the week that the birds will be under greatest stress is overnight in the basket and racing home; these are the times when they are most at risk with going down with something. So I keep it to those days most weeks of the year. Tammy: quite apart from my own opinion that fresh and natural is better than processed, there's the matter of cost and convenience. A garlic bulb can be had from any supermarket for around 25 pence.. the last bottle of garlic concentrate I bought cost £4 for 25ml.. B&R do a 500ml pottle for around £8. I'd to send away for these, pay postage and wait around 7 days before I got it. The Co-op is at the bottom of my road and its in the drinker 10 minutes later.
Diamond dave Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Bruno and Jimmy Can you explain to me the benefit of allicin - is the allicin the reason garlic is so widely used? D.D.
Guest Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Bruno and Jimmy Can you explain to me the benefit of allicin - is the allicin the reason garlic is so widely used? D.D. Allicin is the main active ingredient. If you follow this link it'll take you to Garlic Raw. You'll find two LONG articles posted there. The first gives the general low-down on the pros and cons of using garlic. The second gives you a long list of all the 'stuff' that garlic is proven to see off. The author also gives scientific references for these, so they can be taken as proven fact, rather than 'just' someone's pet theory. http://www.pigeonbasics.com/forum/blah/m-1132321170/s-0/
jimmy white Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 i think if you put a little in their water they get used to it same as p nuts they wont eat them at first , then you cant stop them, same as tic beans if theve never had them b4 they take a bit of starting , but whatever in the water , during racing its allways pure water on a friday, as they will drink their full.
Diamond dave Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Good link Bruno - thanks for that what we need now is some clever person to produce a "one a day" tic bean capsule - or has that already been done?
Roland Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Golly what a link .. near short eyed glasses for that lol.
